Samsung UN60FH6003 yellow tint 3 days after replacing backlights

I replaced all of the backlights in my Samsung UN60FH6003FXZA over the weekend. I bought them from ShopJimmy. For the first couple days everything was great, the picture was crisp and bright. Last night I sat down to watch TV and noticed the entire screen now has a dull yellowish tint to it, but a little more so to the left. At first I thought it was the settings, but everything looks correct and no matter what I change its a dull yellow color. When I go through the Video Modes (Dynamic, Standard, etc) I can see them change, but there's a flash of bright vivid color that looks correct, but only for a fraction of a second and then it's a dull yellow color again. It's hard to explain but it looks like each time I change the mode, it brightens up to how it should look but then immediately dims down again. The color settings are set to Cool also, so I know that isn't it.

After spending 2 1/2 hours replacing the backlights, I'm very disappointed to be having color issues now after only a few hours use. Are the backlights I installed defective? Or is it something like weak caps on the power supply? It was a PITA getting this thing up on the wall, so that's mainly why I'm bummed by the thought of having to open it up again 😒

Yes, it could be that the backlight you installed are defective, now. They probably were in good order when you received/installed them but you did not turn the Backlight control down after installation and they were working at full intensity/current and so got damaged. This is just my theory, though. I could be totally wrong.

The backlights were from ShopJimmy, and while they can't claim their parts are new, they aren't used either, they're from TV's damaged during shipping. However, I believe they manufacture these strips new because they had over 130 in stock before i bought them, and now they are "On Order" and out of stock.

As for the backlight level, I did in fact immediately turn it down after the repair. I've been using it at 12 out of 20 (Max). Even if I had been using it at 20 surely they should last longer than 2 days (roughly 8hrs total use since repair).

It may be worth checking your led and dim voltages just in case you're unfortunate and something else has happened.

We've had lots of defective parts from SJ. While some of their parts could be from new stock damaged in shipping, it's my opinion that most of their parts are those culled from TVs being recycled, either from a broken screen incident or electrical failure.

One shop I know bought three Vizio mains for a certain repair job from SJ and they were all bad, mostly because certain Vizio mains are good for maybe 2000 hours before they die and is the primary reason they are scrapped out. The fourth one SJ sent was good.

The good thing about SJ is that they make good on parts without question, but my experience is only from a professional repair shop standpoint. They may not be quite as generous with consumers repairing their own TVs.

Here's where it gets sticky. If one were to buy an LED strip from any source (I don't want to pick on SJ particularly because they're an excellent supplier) and it had but 50 hours left before an LED was due to die, then the strip would fail shortly after installation. The fact that it was good when installed doesn't mean it's not at the end of it's life. We can see a car tire with 50K miles on it having little tread left, but there's no way to predict how many hours are left in any part regardless of where we buy it, unless we can source it from the manufacturer as new.

BTW, Vizio mostly supplies used parts from TVs they recycle from warranty exchanges. The difference is that Vizio actually tests every part before shipping, but Vizio AFAIK doesn't sell LED strips for their TVs.

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you mean. In case I wasn't clear, my TV is a Samsung, not Vizio. I'm not sure if you were just using them for reference or not.

SJs FAQ state that they do manufacture some of their own parts, and I believe LED strips may be one. I say this because, my TV is 5 years old now, and surely Samsung hasn't used the same strips for that many years, so it's unlikely that they're able to stock 130+ sets of strips from salvage, AND have more sets On Order. I could be wrong though.

I surely hope it's not the LEDs, again!

Yes, because I was relaying the story of the Vizio model known to be a main board killer and three replacements were all bad. The point was that you can buy replacement parts and still be bad, and that I don't think (pure opinion) that SJ tests parts. Exception to that is the LED strips, which are quite easily and quickly tested. They will however replace any part immediately and with no trouble. Still, if an LED strip had few hours left before the screen was damaged or the TV suffered some other failure, the life expectancy would remain the same.

I did a quick check, and the strips in your model fit many other models of Samsungs. SJ is out of stock right now on your version. No, Samsung rarely uses the same part from year to year, but there are many thousands of these being scrapped every week. Perhaps SJ has truckloads of TVs not yet evaluated and stripped, and they expect to cull some good ones from TVs yet to be recycled. This is pure speculation on my part as I have no direct knowledge.

Strips are available from China, but from what I've gathered, most complete assys coming out of China (like strips) are salvaged as well.

If everything is OK and you suspect the LEDs again. You could do as I do and get a NEW set of universal LED strips from China and they seem to work well. You would have to determine if each LED is the 3V or 6V. Most likely the common one that is 3V. Give it a try.

Also, I emailed them about my issue and this is their reply:

"We do have these manufactured for us actually so they're brand new, bit of an odd issue though which I can only assume it might be a manufacturing defect on those but it's super odd you didn't see this immediately though. Honestly the only report we've had of this issue so we're a bit stumped ourselves! You'll spot a prepaid USPS shipping label attached, please use this to send the first set of strips back to us.

At the moment we're out of stock on these but will have another batch in about the 8th of May. If you're okay with waiting I'll have a replacement order shipped out as soon as we get them in. Otherwise is no issue at all to refund these once they get back to us.

Thanks. If they say it, I believe it. I'm just not convinced that all of their LED strip offerings are "made for them", but I am that your version is new stock.

Can you post a picture of what you're experiencing? From your description it might be a erratic LVDS harness or associated connectors between the main and tcon.

I cannot see how the LEDs will be putting out yellowish color, it has to be extreme color shifting for the LEDs to be doing that.

I've had a similar issue a couple of times , clean with alcohol and reassemble the panel wires .

I got into the service menu and did factory reset. I suppose it helped a little bit, but only when the backlight is turned up (default). What is an appropriate backlight level? I originally set it at 10, but that was too dark, and turning up brightness makes the yellow come out, so now I have it at 13. I just don't want to burn out my new leds, but I also want to enjoy the picture on this 60" led 😁

Yeah, LED backlights giving an intermittent yellow color is rubbish. My LED TVs are all set anywhere from 50% to 75% backlight level and have been there since ever I bought them. So far I have 0 LED's fail.

Yellowing of the LED's could be evidence of failure from heat, check if they are running hotter than your white leds or are they all yellow?
