Sharp LC-70LE650U Dark Spot In Screen

    Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to pick up a Sharp LC-70LE650U that works but has a dark spot in the screen. Owner says it comes and goes which leads me to believe it is a bad connection at the panel. Anyone experience this and was able to fix it? I have attached a picture of the problem.

Bad panel. One of the side drivers are shorted or intermittent shorting. Probably recoverable after panel.surgery but nothing that will last forever. I've seen some still running 3 years later, a few fail in weeks.

Thanks, it may be worth a gamble if i can get it for $40??? If all else fails maybe I can get my money back by parting it out.

Well owner agree to $40 for the set. I take it the first thing I need to do is expose the side tabs and press on them to see which side is bad?

You could try but I'm sure the damage has already been done you want to check out the left side facing the screen or the right side if your behind the TV

              Ok,

I picked up the set and plugged it in, the dark spot and the blurring is on the left (left side being in front of the screen)hemisphere of the screen. I'm guessing it is the left side that's failing.

YEAH BUDDY, Freakafter8 you were correct, it was the left side tabs that were bad. I removed them and wahlaa, I now have a perfect picture on a 70" Sharp TV for $40. I will send pics shortly!

might be a good idea to put thermal pads on the remaining tabs to help them from overheating and failing..

I would leave "well enough" alone. The 70 in sharp that did is now over 2 years old.

                              Hey Budwich or Freakafter8,

I came across this Vizio M701d-A3R on Craigslist. Looking at the picture it's definitely a panel issue but will the surgery you guys found fix this?

iirc that has a sharp panel.
if so procedure is the same.
