Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
At this point I believe the 3.8v supplied by the SW pin is withinin range of acceptance. I paid $10 for this TV 2 years ago and it appears it's finally paid off with a simple jump wire. I've taped and secured the jump wire and BRI wire, and I'm about to close this thing up for use.
Edit:
My son loves it lol

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
3.21v AA battery x2 = Backlights
The 3.2v looked the same as 3.8v from SW pin as far as brightness goes. So either the range starts somewhere OVER 1.52V, or it starts at 0 and anything below ~2v-3v is unusable. Looking at it I wouldn't pin it being 100% Backlight even at 3.8v. maybe closer to 60-70% range in comparison to my other LED TVs (however this is edge lit I believe, the others are backlit).Last edited by x_orange90_x; 01-20-2020, 02:07 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
Di you try lowering the Voltage to see what happen?
It will be a long term semi fix since you can no longer adjust the backlights level using user manual.
As I indicated, typical control Voltage is 0 ~ 5V, yours may no be the same, it can be 0 ~ 3V (or what ever the design is for the panel) too, that is why I told you to do the experiment.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
Well, you already know that you have BRI 0V which you reported, so now you force the BRI by jumping the BRI to Voltage source then you have backlights which is why you can no longer control the backlights level via user menu. Typical BRI analog control is that at 5V = max backlights, 0V = FULLY DIM.
I already suggested you to try lowering the BRI feeding Voltage to see it will vary the backlights level or not.

BTW, it looks like you have strand of wire touching GND pin, you need to clean that up that is why I recommend resistor.
Reconnecting the BRI wire while having BRI and SW jumpered.. Backlights turn off after a few seconds.
The main control BRI but the main board is having problem and keeping that line grounded instead of providing the Voltage level for the BRI.
You know, you are lucky so far from blowing parts on the main board not using resistor for protection.so if 5v is Max backlight, then 3.8v should be somewhere around 75% backlight. I'd be comfortable with that. Do you think this is a long term fix?

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
So as is the backlight would be 100%. Would reconnecting the BRI wire have any impact/allow me to change backlight level via the menu?
What would be the "permanent" fix in order to reduce backlight to 75 or 50?
I just answered one of my questions... Reconnecting the BRI wire while having BRI and SW jumpered.. Backlights turn off after a few seconds. It seems to me that whatever signal going through the BRI wire is not correct and causes the main board to turn off the LEDs. However, as long as the wire is disconnected and I have the jumper in place, it seems to be happy.

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
You need to lower the BRI feeding Voltage to may be around 2.5V that may put the backlights level to about 50%, you can us variable power supply (or test with 1.5V and 3V batteries to test the effect on the backlights level) to test if the backlights level will change.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
Watching TV for over an hour so far with no issues (other than not being able to adjust Backlight). I'm thinking about securing the jumper and buttening it up. If I were to reconnect the BRI wire WITH the jumper connected, would that enable me to control Backlight?Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
I guess we'll see what budm has to say. I already know that the 2+ string isn't getting full voltage under normal circumstances. I'm just curious if this is anyway a potential fix/bypass.
I'm going to leave it as is with BRI and SW jumpered and check the voltage of the LEDs again.
Edit:
1+ = 279v
2+ = 67v
This is with the backlights on, blue screen appears as normal with No Signal message, and no darkspots. I can change the Brightness in settings even with the BRI wire completely disconnected, but Backlight level does not change. 0 or 100 backlight is the same. I've been watching OTA TV on it for about a half hour so far with it jumped.Last edited by x_orange90_x; 01-19-2020, 03:02 PM.Leave a comment:

Not exactly sure but it seems like maybe the mainboard isn't sending proper signal to turn backlighrts on.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
Jumpered it and the backlights don't come on at all.
Edit:
I went to check voltage on the BRI pin with the jumper in place as before. I accidently slipped the probe on the connector but made a new discovery. The probe connected BRI to SW (BL_ON) which is less than 4v, and the backlights came on. I thought Uh OH at first, but then referred back to my previous readings and found that SW is almost the same voltage as STB. I placed the probe between the two pins again and held it for a few seconds. As long as those two pins (BRI and SW) are jumped the backlights stay on. More interesting however is that the screen was blue with the No Signal message (aka working properly).
I did however recheck BRI pin voltage and it was -2v. Checked SW and it's 3.84v. I don't understand why I'm getting a negative reading on BRI.Last edited by x_orange90_x; 01-19-2020, 12:55 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
You mentioned you still don't have a resistor, resistor is recommended, if you are real careful not to touch anything else, you can use a jumper wire, resistor is used so you don't short or blow anything by accidental contact or wrong jumping. Can try jumper if you do it correctly and carefully but resistor is the best policy.Leave a comment:

Re: Hisense f42k20e turns on, screen goes dark
So it does not have pull-up resistor for the BRI pin, but check the DCV on BRI PIN anyway just in case; otherwise use 1K resistor between BRI and STBY 5V.Leave a comment:

I believe that the BRI pin may also need to be connected to 5V to bring on the backlights one the wire is removed.Leave a comment:

by smic717394Hi,
I have a iphone XS that came in for a screen replacement, the screen was badly cracked, and inside missing scues, on the back of the screen still the blue protector, the screen was a LCD. So we replaced the screen and all good, installed the screen and we noticed that pressing the screen with a bit of force but not excessive, the phone dies. After plugging the charger it turns back on, but again if you press it it dies. I open the phone again, and I can't see anything major, with the phone open, if I press on the logic board, battery, charging board, or even putting pressure on... -
by Rav_tangleHi all , thanks for having me & I think this has been asked before but my case seems a bit odd.
I have a MacBook Pro , board 820-2915a and it turns on , chimes etc etc , keyboard lights up, fans spins , can turn caps lock on/off but screen is dead.
Iv tried the resets , shine torch through back logo , nothing , it seems the screen has no power. If I plug charger , it charges but if I disconnect battery it displays green light but won't turn on. Iv tried screen on with another board & it works & seems I'm not getting any voltage at pin 2 , next to ground pin .
is this... -
by reformattJust had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".
It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...07-31-2025, 08:37 PM -
by krigehi all i was wondering if you could help me troubleshoot this laptop. i bought the motherboard off eBay. it is used. i fitted the motherboard into the housing of the gaming casing and turned it on. nothing shows up on the screen. i checked the connectors and no missing connectors. i also removed the graphics card and nothing on the screen. i even reflashed the bios but still nothing on the screen. can it be a corrupt bios? i even used the HDMI port but it also shows nothing on screen. could this be broken screen or a dead ec chip?...

by RunlincHi all, I need to change the backlights in a Hisense 55E76GQTUK. The screen is glued to the chassis, what is the easiest way of delaminating the screen from the chassis please?
also what double sided tape would you recommend to glue it back in? ….. or is that a question to ask once the screen is out in one piece?
Many thanks for any ideas you have. - Loading...
