Panel ribbon cable on SONY KDL-50W704

I would very much appreciate it if someone can tell me how or point me in the right direction (YouTube video perhaps) on how to remove the panel ribbon cable from the TCON board on the SONY KDL-50W704 without destroying it. I hope to fix the ribbon cables on a new TCON board.

The ribbon cables appear to have been glued on to the TCON board. I've attached some pictures to give you an idea. Any help would be much appreciated.

The ribbon cables are adhered to the board with special adhesive tape that conducts in one direction. They are attached with a very expensive machine using heat and pressure, the tape is also fairly expensive also.
There are several threads on here and videos on YouTube. Search for tab bond repair.
A bit of heat softens the adhesive to allow the tab to be pulled off without damage. The attaching is the hard part.

Re: Panel ribbon cable on SONY KDL-50W704

        Thanks guys.

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I can see, the TCON boards for this generation of SONY TVs seems to have been embedded with the panel circuit board. So half the screen is connected directly to the TCON board (50T08-C04) and the other half to a panel circuit board (50T08-S02). The TCON board and the panel circuit boards are connected via a ribbon cable.

When all the boards are connected, I get multiple images on the screen (see the attached picture).

However, when I disconnect the panel circuit board from the TCON board by removing the ribbon cable, I get a good clear half picture but only at the half that is connected to the TCON board. (see the 2nd picture below)

I have got a new 50T08-S02 board. I tried connecting the TCON board to the new 50T08-s02 panel board (which is not connected to the screen just yet). However, I get the multiple images again but only half the screen. The other half which is not connected to the new 50t08-s02 board remains white. It appears that the TCON board seems to have a problem when it is connected to the 50t08-s02 board even when the 50t08-s02 board is not connected to the screen.

Can I safely assume that something is wrong with the TCON board?

The TCON board has the following ICs
        AUO 12309
        AUO M106-11
        AUO P301-16
        AUO-G1422

Can someone tell me what those ICs are for? If I were to replace them, would it help solve the display problems that I am having.

        Cheers in advance!

Check for shorted ceramic capacitors on that board.

I tried measuring the capacitors on the 50T08-C04 board using a DMM. I then measured the corresponding/same capacitors on a new 50T08-C04 board. I was surprised to see note that the capacitors around the AUO-G1422 chip were all different by up to 24%.

Can a defective IC cause these differences in measurements?

Samsung UN65TU8000 - Panel Issue [ hole in ribbon cable ]
                    by NWArkGuy
Well, I will be the first to admit that I screwed up...

In attempting to replace the backlight in a UN65TU8000, I made a hole through one of the ribbon cables between the board that runs along the bottom of the back of the TV and the panel. This lead to a between a 1/4 to 1/2 inch vertical stripe running the full height of the image.

I don't have the experience; personally, to solder a bridging wire for the paths that were cut. So, I have been on the hunt for other Samsung TV's of similar size.

I have 2 that I have found and have in my possession. ...

Sony KD-65A1 Repair – 4 Red Blinks Error
                    by AK_777
                    Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.

Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and...

Sony KD-65x8500b - bad Tcon or panel?
                    by rimwall
Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
                    a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
                    b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                    by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Sony 8K XBR-75Z8H White Screen Vertical Bars Tcon Code. Help Needed🙏
                    by Daren87
                    Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...
