I picked up this TV pretty cheap hoping to do a simple TCON board replacement (tv powers on and I get backlight). I swapped in a good TCON board and still no picture but I was getting some different symptoms. Anyway, I dug deeper and removed the bezel on the TV and found corrosion on a board near the panel. It appears it's gotten some moisture to it. I'm going to clean it up but most likely it has some bad components and may be beyond repair. Am I to assume that this board only comes with panels and therefore this repair is a loss?

Yes you are correct, those are applied in the factory with a special adhesive that only conducts in one direction. They put a coating across the contacts then line them up perfectly using a microscope and heat to set.
I've come across a few with similar corrosion on those ribbons (usually kids throwing their drinks at the screen). Ended up using some Blue Works Contact Cleaner and a soft toothbrush to get it off, worked about 50% of the time. -

Another one of those LCD panel with tab bonding board on the bottom edge and it gets corrosion due to owner spray cleaner on the screen so it drips down on to the board and causes problem.
You can try cleaning it and check the resistance of those SMD caps and see if the traces got eaten away or not.Last edited by budm; 03-23-2017, 09:53 AM.Never stop learning

Re: Samsung 60" LED with corrosion on panel-connected board
Ok, I cleaned it up with a fiberglass brush and alcohol. Cleaned all the contacts. With the new board in place before cleaning I was hearing some noise from the TCON like it was trying to work the panel but the backlights wouldn't come on unless I unhooked the TCON from the Main board. After cleaning it up, the backlights is coming on but still no picture so I'm assuming I made some progress with it but the traces must be shot.Comment

by HakuuHi There,
This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.
After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by advantThis thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.
I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match... -
by m1ch43lzmHi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic... -
by ohrenI hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.
I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.
The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively.... - Loading...
