    SONY BAL BOARD Reset? 1-881-636-22

    HI,

my BAL board 1-881-636-22 is defective so i decided to buy a used one from an other tv set.

Sony tells in the service manual the 2010 Model BAL board is generic so just the software needs to be updated.

well i formated a 8GB stick FAT32, copied the firmware on it, plugged it in but the tv set refuses to update the software.
it just flashes 5 times the red led which indicates a Panel ID NVM Error error which is clear to me.

    so my questions are:

can i force a software update?
can i reset the BAL Board?
can i cange the panel ID somewhere else?

No way to get a used BAL borad working in another TV Set?

thanks in advance and best regards,

Replacement BAL boards will now be stocked with basic software. Once the replacement board is installed in the unit, the most current software is to be installed using a USB storage device containing the necessary software downloaded from the ASC support web page.

can i get that basic software somewhere and can i flash it to my BAL board?

what does the tv screen indicate, if anything, when you power up with the usb plugged in? What folder did you use on the usb?
Have you tried entering the service menu?

have used a 16GB and a 8GB usb fat 32 stick which indicat access by a flashing led on the stick - well at power up the led on the USB isnt flashing. but the same also on the original bal board - when the os is up it searches the usb stick and displays that the is firmware on it...

tried also to get into the service menu - tries to power up and then ends by flashing the red led on the tv set for 5 times.

I guess we are going to do the "tooth pull" on this. You need provide some history on the set and what you have done to get to where you are.

My guess from my quick read is that your set has a tcon issue (blown fuse) or possibly a bad panel causing an issue.... again just from a quick read.

                    thanks for helping guys,

well on this set it is a 100% BAL Board issue regarding the old BAL Board.

the "new used" one just refuses to take the SW and refuses to start up.

My question is in this threads are:

are the BAL boards interchangeable when they have the same SONY Part number but used in another TV Set wich another LCD Size.

has anybody ever successfully installed an used BAL Board?

how can i force a USB FW upgrade even when the TV remains black?

                    thanks in advance

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Hi everyone, newcomer in this forum, i watched tons of video from Sorin, i like the way i calmly explain things, i did quite some console repair, i am not that bad at micro-soldering, but troubleshooting where the issue is, is definitely where i still have progress to make. Usually i was able to fix the console because the failure was obvious, or because i was able to find someone with similar measures on the board and was pinpointing what to replace that way.
Nevertheless, let's say, i don't come as a total beginner.

                      Hi there!

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4500 which shows a colored vertical stripes pattern when turning on, with a central black shadow that slowly dissipates within the first 10 seconds.

Photo of the situation after the black shadow dissipates:

After this behavior the red LED will blink 9 times, then pause for a bit, and blink again 9 times, in a loop.

I checked the manual (available here) and this corresponds to "HFR error", quoting from the manual:

                      > This indicates HFR Communication error. [ HFR Communication...
