    Vizio M70-C3

Every now and then I get the urge to scan Craigslist for free "stuff". Someone had just submitted a post on a free pickup of a Visio 70 Smart TV. I called, it was there but they needed it out that night, so I went and grabbed it.

Turns out it's less then a year old 4k 70", Amazon link here: https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M70-C3-...s=m70+c3+vizio

I did ask why they're getting rid of it and it was due to a line down the middle and right part of screen having some issues. They had a brand new TV hooked up, and said it was a replacement from the movers. They had just moved into the new place and after hooking the 70" up, this problem showed up (which wasn't there before the move). The 70" was way too big for the place they moved into, so they were happy with the newer downgrade size wise.

Anyway...looks like I have a new project and will update findings along the way.

Question...Has anyone torn down one of these yet? It's fairly new, so just wondering if any has experience or tips on where to start? Hoping something jarred loose during the move...we shall see.

Quick update...the issue is a 6" wide black line down the center of the TV (vertical). Right and left of the line everything looks fine. Going to take some getting used to with this 4K screen. didn't plug anything in, but did add it to my WIFI and the images from the network look like negatives. Normal?

A pic of the black line attached. A quick scan of the boards and cards and don't see anything disconnected, etc.

      Any ideas where to start?

Note...hard to see in the pic but there is another vertical line/section the same size right to the left of the solid black one that is flickering (similar to how my laptop screen would show lines and you could press on it to make them go away...pressing doesn't do anything here :-)).

Found the issue...looking for advice from the experts if it's repairable.

I had to take the frame off to get to the green circuit boards that I assume power LED strips. The cable from the green board to the LED on the black vertical line is cracked. There is some sticky substance on that piece of the board and the one next to it (the vertical line that is intermittent), and it looks kind of burnt. I haven't pulled the panel off, where the cable with the crack leads to. Is the other end similar? How are these connected...it doesn't appear to be soldered, rather glued or ???

The board in the pics has a number on it, Y1K00735A0013, if it helps.

Asking for comments/suggestions from those in the know or anyone that has experienced this.

Can this be saved and at what cost?

Those boards can't be replaced but you can repair by replacing bad components and repairing broken/burnt traces. The cost is effectively nil except what you may lose in hair and sweat by remembering what the set is worth lol.

Be very carefull with those boards and ribbons. Tape them down so they do not move while you work on it. They connect to the LCD panel and you would not be able to repair the joint to the panel if they were damaged.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

                Re: Vizio M70-C3

Yeah...I couldn't see any way to deal with the cut ribbon. To bad they don't make the ends on the LCD end with female adapter where the ribbons could be pulled/replaced.

After very close inspection, the panel does separate that spans two of those ribbon lengths, where the vertical line are. the crack is about a 1.2 in long across the ribbon and I've never been successful with ribbon issues (had to throw an Asus tablet away for a similar reason (after hacking it to hell). Once a panel starts separating like that is it repairable (meaning can you apply some glue or epoxy and apply very light heat to the parts separating to seal it?

A 70" screen not cracked but basically unusable...what a shame.

Don't think I'm going to worry myself and lose any sweat...it does make one think though...a $1500 TV if it were in working condition...(and I'll be thinking about it all day at work today).

If there are no other ideas I guess this one goes to e-waste.

I've successfully tinned the traces on a ribbon with chip quik. Same TV but it was a side tab that was broken. I wasn't able to fix it. Threw it away.

Ya I have a suggestion. Stand it up and use it as two separate 1080p tv's one over the other. Kinda artsy but you'll have the only one like it

Thats a tcon problem. Heat up the ram modules on the board then power up.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

What do you mean by this? Is this something that is done to confirm a fix, followed by something more permanent?

I am trying to help my friend to fix his Vizio tv with a vertical line on the screen. The line is on the right side. It is blue/purple on the right side starting from the top. But it only goes to about 3/4 of the screen height (not to the bottom of the screen). It is very obvious when the screen is dark and it is hard to be seen when the screen is bright. Please help....

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                              Assuming...

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...
