Samsung un65fh6001 has no standby light and no power please help

Hi everyone, i have a samsung led with no standby light and will not power on. (It happened after a power surge) However the backlight turns on when i disconnect the main board. So i took another step and keep the main board connected but disconnect the t-con board and the back light come on again. No visible damage to any boards, capacitors, and diodes. The fuse on the power board is still good. I've read you that really have to take out the capacitors in order to get the right reading with the meter. That would be my next step.

I know there are some threads somewhat similar to this but i can't seem to find the exact solution. Please help. Pictures are attached.

Those are the readings (in one of the picture) when the main board is disconected and backlight come on.

Thank you soooo much for any suggestions, helps!!!

With the TCON disconnected you say the backlights come on. Do you get any sound.

You need to take the same readings but this time with the main board connected so we can see what the differences are.

You say the backlights came on... but the LED stayed off during both tests?
Means you got a main board problem.

Thanks so much for the fast respond guys. The tcon board right in the middle. Back light comes on. (i can see white lights thru those opening from the back. From the front of the screen just a bluish to black screen, very dark) Led standby light remains off for both tests. Same readings when the main board is connected with tcon connected and disconnected. I just found out that when the main board is connected and and not the tcon, the backlight only stay lit for about 5 min then shut off.

Can you check the Tcon fuse for 12V both sides.

I think CapLeaker may well have answered the problem.

I believe he said that with the TCON disconnected and the main board connected the backlights still come on but they only stay on for 5 mins.

Surely that doesn't mean a mobo fault right ? The set is probably going into no signal standby. I think you might have a Tcon or panel issue tbh.

                      that is correct dick_barton..
reeceyburger when the main board is connected but not the tcon, the backlight comes on for about 5 min n then shut off. when it's on there is no respond with the remote. There is no respond with the remote or power button throughout all the test. Do you think it's a tcon or the main board? because clearly there is power.

i'm also wondering. i found a main board on ebay. it looks exactly the same as mine but it comes from a 60" not 65" and the number on the board is a bit different in the end. Do ya guys know if that would work? Thanks

Ahh ok does sound like Mb then. Also you cant use a 60" Mb in a 65" as it wont have the firmware loaded for that screen and you might have distortions on the display. Can you not find the one for your Tv ?

Thanks reeceyburger that make perfect sense. So far i have found several that look that same but none that has the exact number.

Hmm keep looking as long as they match the screen number used.

That kinda doesn't make any sense. Can you do a recheck of the voltages again?

Re: Samsung un65fh6001 has no standby light and no power please help

I have a Samsung that had a very similar issue (no standby light, or power up etc) It "turned on" and measured the correct voltages once the t-con was disconnected.

It turned out the ground pin on the keypad connector had a bad solder joint (looked good, but wasn't contacting) so the entire button pad was effectively disconnected.

Obviously the main board swap should have fixed it if this was the case, but it may be the other end on the keypad or a bad connector.
also may be worth looking at solder joints around the standby light/IR receiver/toggle button etc. just in case there is a bad contact somewhere.

also may help: with the T-con plugged in do you get standby voltage out of the PSU, and if so does it get through to the standby LED (ill assume not, otherwise it would probably be alight) and trace back from there and see where it disappears (It will likely not be in your mainboard as swapping should have fixed that!).

Again not sure if this will help, but it does sound like similar symptoms to what mine had.

Thanks for the input rockit711. I was about to look into what you suggested after i do the reading for capleaker. It turned out that when i replaced the "new main board" with and without the tcon connected the backlight didn't even turn on. What's worst is the all reading went to zero. Does that mean that the board is bad and i got rip off? i bought the board on ebay and the seller does not accept returns.

Re: Samsung un65fh6001 has no standby light and no power please help

I assume that with the new main board you're still not getting the standby light illuminating? If that is the case I'd start there and trace the standby power to figure out where its failing. Once you figure out where the standby is failing you can fix that and then see if you get any further signs of life with either main board.

Assuming its the same with the new main board it would be likely there is either no standby power out of the power board or a bad connection after the main board.

Also be careful when measuring voltages to measure to a ground on the board you are measuring (only really relevant if the board itself isnt grounded to the chassis. That's where I went wrong with mine, if you measure to the chassis ground then could will miss an issue caused by a bad ground connection on a isolated board.
