    Dim Bulb Tester

I built a dim bulb tester to prevent parts from blowing up on me. I assume that in order for me to use this tester to test tv boards, like the Y or X main, I can just use a power cord and connect it in series with whatever voltage line may have a problem, then connect it to the socket.

BTW, this socket uses a 120V 150W max bulb. I have a 150W bulb. I can't find any 240V bulbs, is there a place to order them? I know I need it to test Tv boards.

You need to order them from european sites that ship to Canada.

Can someone explain why you need this bulb for testing? For example , i have a SC board with shorted components. Do i need a bulb to test the board after replacing components? Or is this just a test for testing stable voltages?

Either that--Or use Two 75W 110V bulbs in series.

Vs is usually over 200V on Plasma sets--Using a 110V bulb would be stupid!

Haha , that 110v bulb could give you a "plasma effect" for a few secs....

I would try eBay and order these bulbs from china! If you have trouble ordering these lamps and you really want 1. I can buy one here and send it to you?

thanks moreno. I will check eBay and aliexpress. Probably easier just to connect another bulb in series to get the 240V.

Thats 250W! Not a little bit over the top? haha.

Problem is , all company's are either making energy saving bulbs/lamps. Those traditional bulbs are hard to find online. Most of them are also led.

I think if you search for " 230v lamp " you will find more options. Here in europe most bulbs are 230v. ( E27/230v )

The lamp is being used as the load for the Vs output? or as automatic current limiter on the input side of the Vs?

I think they use the bulb for the output Vs. Not sure , but i also don't get why they use the bulb......

Hi budm. I had a XSUS board with 4 shorted IGBTs. Replaced all of them including the gate driver IC, and parts blew up again. I want to use the bulb tester as a current limiter, to test the board after part replacement as I don't want to blow the new parts. I need a higher voltage rated bulb , like 230V to test the VS line.

Using two 120V bulb is series will be easier choice.

So when testing the X SUS board , I would just remove the VS connection going from the power supply to the X SUS board, then put the power cord on the VS line. Not sure exactly how to do this without damaging something.
