Vizio M470SV menus are extremely slow to respond

I picked up a Vizio M470SV at a garage sale. I was told it would shut down due to bad caps. I thought I'd get it anyway and try and fix it.

At first, the TV would start up, display "Comp RGB" and then would shut down. Once I was able to get the TV onto another input source, it would stay on. From the start, the remote hardly worked. Menu items would change 15-20 seconds after I pressed a button. I have since read the it's possibly the IR sensor. No big deal. But, even the buttons on the back of the TV have the same slowness when changing menus. So, it may NOT be the IR sensor if the buttons are slow too.

I cannot get any input device to work. I hooked up an antenna just to see if the TV would show some static. The TV searched for channels, but the search took so long, it shut down. I connected a Roku2 and the got a "Device not supported" message. Then the TV shut down.

Any ideas as to why this TV is so agonizingly slow?

    thank you

Does anybody have an opinion whether this problem is a particular board problem or perhaps software?

I have a Vizio E422va which is doing the same thing. after inspection of the main board and thinking what will could this? I decided to change all four RAM memory. these memoey chips are BGA so you will need a hot air gun to removed and re-solder them. I haven't received the RAM yet to give any update

My bet, these TVs run Linux, you have bad flash memory on the main board. At my former employer we had boxes with this problem when the flash memory failed they'd become extremely lethargic as reads and writes took many seconds to complete. The Linux kernel would just flood the debug message log with hundreds of errors per second and most reads/writes would just spin in a loop until complete.
Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I agree the flash memory could be the problem. the E422va is a smart TV, which the firmware is Linux. I install a new new flash memory chip with a good copy of the firmware, there was no change.

I will update you later once the RAM memory comes

I was thinking firmware could be the problem, but I don't think there is any way to update it. You guys have given me a little hope though. Thanks.

I have the same exact TV doing pretty much the same thing. I do believe it's a firmware or eeprom issue but not sure how to update since Vizio states they only update over the internet. I opened a new thread about mine totally missing this thread. Hopefully someone with someone knows how to get a replacement chip or reflash the firmware on these.

Can you use your TV in it's present condition? I can't use mine.

Mine shuts itself off too. I hope the RAM does the trick. My fingers are crossed.

Re: Vizio M470SV menus are extremely slow to respond

NO good news, I install the brand new RAM using my hot air work station. the main board when from working slow to not working at all. Sometime buying from IC's from China can be a gamble. I purchase 5 of these RAM memory from ALIEXPRESS and all gave the same result.

this really suck if these RAM memory are bad, I made sure not to used too much heat and the body of the chip is inside the box of the white outline

Now I will have remove a used RAM from another E422VA main-board to try to re-store the main board back to its original operation

recap- I order the wrong RAM memory. I make a rookie mistake with part number of the RAM memory. The last three digital are importance

                            I order H5PS1G83EFR-Y5C

                            I needed H5PS1G83EFR-G7C

I will update you when I received the correct RAM memory

I had a similar problem with a Samsung set that was quite slow at responding to remote or side panel button presses but a firmware update sorted that out.
Willing to help but I'm no expert.

I don't have any idea how to get a firmware update from Vizio.
