Wharfdale no sound through HDMI

I have the first ever TV i recapped back with me after lending it to a friend.
Connected with scart the TV works with sound and picture, however when i connect through HDMI i get a picture but no sound. instead there is a rhythmic pulsing ever second or so.
It's using a 17MB15E-5 mainboard.
Does the main board need recapping or is there anything else i can check ?

Have u ruled out the obvious and tried another hdmi cable and another input device?

Yes, tried other cables, and as well as my Tivo and output from my laptop.

Try factory reseting the tv. To do this press on the remote in the following order:

Menu
4725
A service menu should appear
You should see an option that says "reset"
Select reset and wait for the tv to reboot.

Check if the audio comes back if not you more than likely have a hardware failure.

Cheers RecceyBurger, i've just tried that and it's definitely hardware failure. Still no sound and as i increase the volume on the remote the volume bar display freezes in sync with the pulsing buzzing sound.
Could it be a partially damaged HDMI chip ? The picture works with HDMI and if i connect the TV through scart the sound works great.

Hmm does sound like the Hdmi controller or a bad cap on the decoupling stage for it. Possibly you could try heating it to see if audio comes back ?

I'll try with some heat tomorrow, just seems strange i get a picture and no sound. I've encountered blown HDMI chips in the past but they were no sound and no picture. I might test a few of the small caps around that area to see what they are like.

Possibly does sound like a Hdmi chip failure, let us know buddy
