    TNPH0784 14 Blinks SOS Repair

I have here a second TX-P42S10B 42" Full Hd Plasma tv made by Panasonic, this is another TNPH0784 with 14 blink error code seems to be very common on these boards.
Anyway after finding that the error code which states 14 blink is a Audio Pwm Sos I found that indeed the Audio Pwm cucuit was not working the B+ which is 15v was dropping out causing the tv to go into shutdown.

After reading another thread I found that the most common issue is the ADV7470 Ic that controls the Hdmi and feeds B+ for Audio Pwm was not working. This chip is Bga welded and this tv states how proud it is to use lead free solder (Pb free) so I decided to try and reflow this Ic as nothing really to lose on this tv.

I applied some flux around the edges of the chip and heated it with my heat gun at 500c I heated for about 3 mins notices that the chip and pcb were rasing so turn off heat and let it cool. After hooking it back up the tv works whoooo !

So the failure here was again more crappy Bga solder failing nothing new to me, the tv has been running for hours no issues, I found that this Ic gets very very hot which could have been the reason for failure here as Panasonic did not heatsink the chip. So I found an old heatsink and used silicon thermal plaster to hold it down onto the chip, I also added a heatsink to other large Bga Ic as it got hot but again not heatsinked.

So hopefully this tv will last now, the Ic had not failed but the solder had easy fix but tricky to diagnose. Image is cracking as well. Thanks for reading hope this helps.

I have made a youtube video on the repair it will follow shortly

    Nice fix!
Yes, if a BGA chip runs too hot to touch and has Pb-free solder, it is bound to fail at some point.

If you encounter (and repair) BGA issues often, I recommend you buy one of those $5 type-K thermometers to check your temperature while reflowing. You need to get the temperature up to 220-225 C and hold it there for at least 10 seconds there (but no more than 30). Also, heat from bottom side of the board first until you hit about 150C, then you can start heating the chip from top. Otherwise, you might damage the chip or the fix may only be temporary.

Thank you, I do need to invest in a thermometer as I did cause the chip to blister slightly. However it was pot luck that I fixed it, I had nothing to lose so just decided to reflow the Ic and boom A more permanent solution would be to reball it however I dont have that type of equipment yet so hopefully this one lasts.

You can throw in a oven at 385f for 10 mins then let cool for 30.
I have used this method to fix dv series hp laptops time and time again.

Thanks for the suggestion however dont think it would be a very good idea as this board has lots of plastic on it which could melt, I prefer to use a direct heating method rather than heating the whole board. Seems to be fine anyway thanks though

Not only that, but the board also has electrolytic capacitors. They are guaranteed to go bad when you heat the board in the oven. The heat gun will not overheat them unless you point it directly at it and keep it there for a long time.

Here is the thermometer I use:
              http://www.ebay.com/itm/TM-902C-Digi...-/360849831685

The only thing I have extra is a very fine point thermocouple probe - it picks up the temperature changes slightly faster than the stock probe that comes with these meters. But overall, it is still a great value for what you get. Even the cheap Carbon Zinc battery in them lasts a year or two.

Very true its a bad method in general best to use something that gives direct heat.

I have a very similar board in a G10 that has a 14 blink, it looks like a more populated version of this 784 board has LAN socket and extra chip etc...

Ive not tried refowing these bga things before, but will give it a try tomorrow. I have a IR thermometer, can access a proper hot-air gun and for basic board pre-heat, have the wallpaper-stripper.....
I need to cook up some flux though....

Re: TNPH0784 14 Blinks SOS Repair

If you didnt realise this Tv is the one I spoke about taking the screen out for the TNPA5051 meltdown thread. Reflowing the HDMI processor did not work The Tv will boot up and no longer gives 14 blink however non of the HDMI ports work at all. So im just going to replace the board, unless I find a new Chip and someone who can reball it.

Let me know what happens mate

Funny thing is, I have a 784 and due to the sets similarity and the board a basic version in comparison to the 811 board--I was thinking of subbing in the G10...

I wonder--If that chip is faulty in your set causing the heat?
--that 42 you reflowed--does the set work on any other input/dvb etc?

Yes all other inputs are fine mate. Just the HDMI completely blank no matter what I connect but all others work great. That chip processes the HDMI and as it was at fault originally it has to be the cause.

Also I think the one on the faulty 42" still got as hot as the 50" so I dont think its shorted. But somewhere that Ic or the solder is still broken down.

Tbh its a shame IMO because this Tv other wise is built like a tank but I have found Panasonic Plasmas always seem to have some stupid design fault that brings them to their knees for example this not having a heatsink on that Ic causing this break down.

Ohh and also my crappy SD card corrupted so there wont be a repair video

This is this is the kit I use to use 15 years ago when re balling had only just been invented so I doubt the makers of this are still in business , the solder balls are mounted in a paper pre form which you just sit on top of the BGA and then re flow, after re flow you just wash away the paper in de ionised water . I bought this in 2001 so I could re use secondhand BGA s as the one I was changing most cost over £69 to buy new.

Yeah, can I ask Vince what chassis are the Xboxs you have ? Xennon or falcon etc ??

I would buy a station today but I just dont have the space at my moms house to store things with all the Tv's I have.

This is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.

There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as...

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
                                          by BMCappelletti
                                          Long story short:
                                          - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                                          - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                                          - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                                          - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

I need to add w25q256jveq chip but I do not know what data should I type.

Hello, first of all, excuse me, I am using the translator, English is not my native language.

                                          I have a Lenovo ideapad 330S - 14IKB laptop.

The tablet did not recognize me when I connected it, so I checked the device manager and I realized that there were many with the exclamation mark, so one by one I began to update their drivers until the sign disappeared of admiration, I even updated the BIOS, and the laptop rebooted normally and worked, so far so good, but the tablet still did not recognize me, I read on the internet that it could be due to a...

                                          Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...
