Panasonic TH-42PX75X went POP and lost the magic smoke!

So, this rather large and heavy beast of a TV recently gave off a loud bang, lost the magic smoke, and did nothing more after that. I'm new to doing TV repair, but I'd love to develop some more skills in this area, so i thought this would be a great first project. Having a functional TV afterwards would be sweet, but it's not life or death. I'm starting this thread to get general advice, like:
    • needed tools
    • parts to replace and where to source
    • what are these parts that failed and why?

I apologize beforehand for the bad (phone) pictures.

    First, make and model:

So I opened up the back panel, and found no physical damage, not a sign of blown caps (like I suspected). Suspecting the failure to be in the powerboard, I unhooked that and took it out for a closer look:

All seems fine (no bulging caps or anything), until i flipped the thing over:

Clearly these contact points are a little toasty. These 9 contacts are the only ones damaged, everything else looks good. They relate to the components circled below:

    So, my direct questions are:
What are these things, and if I could source the parts, will that fix my problem, or will there be other defects I've missed?

    Thanks guys!

look for the big black soot mark - it may be something under the heatsinks.

nothing goes bang without being very obvious afterwards.

Thats just oxidised flux on those 9 points in the picture. Do the parts test as faulty?

Unusual for one of these PSU's to blow up, when they do fail, usually just stop working not make any smoke.--More likely the SC board has let go--They Can and Do go Bang!

The second photo, capacitor it the top left corner doesn't have a hole in it does it? Hard to tell from photo...

Remove all the boards and look at the chassis. Do you see any signs of residue from damaged component? If not, then you have ruled out the under sides of the boards. On the head sinks, look carefully where the legs of the components leave the plastic bodies (just one example).

its a plasma, check the y main and upper and lower buffer boards. probally a field effect transistor (fet) or maybe a cap that popped?. do you have a stby light? it may be related to something other than powersupply.as stj said nothing goes pop without something being visible. look at the square chips on the buffers maybe a hole in one or more, usually they take the y main with them when they go.

I have a Th-42PX75U that is completely dead, Both fuses near where the ac power connects to power board were blown along with the mosfet transistor. Those 3 pieces come in a kit sold by many including ShopJimmy and a few on ebay and some kits include those 3 diodes near the fet. Those solder joints indicate that they have been changed and I have done the same thing to mine but when I plugged it in the fet popped with smoke but the fuses did not blow. I pulled the fet out and ordered a new one then compared the reading of both and they were the same so although the fet popped it was still good. I put the new one in and plugged it in and the fet popped with sparks and smoke and this time the fuses blew also. It seems that the pop is coming from the back of the fet and the heatsink. The heatsink does have a square piece of paper?? that sits between the heatsink and fet so not really sure what is going on.

Allen & Heath Xone:92 (DJ mixer) no output on main out & magic smoke
                by jaifraic
                Hello,

I have a DJ mixer here, an Xone:92 by Allen & Heath.

When I turned it on, only magic smoke came out, so I turned it off again.
An optical troubleshooting has brought me quite fast to the
source of the smoke: two resistors look disproportionately black (see first pic)

Those are R73 and R74 on the master PCB. See second pic for the corresponding page of the service manual.
                Behind those resistors are five OP-Amps (U3, U4, U5, U6 and U9).

My thought is that one (or more) of those is defective. I've measured...

Panasonic TC-P55ST50 8 blinks then no blinks
                by Andre Gilbert
Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

Problem with PANASONIC CF53 laptop after changing BIOS settings
                by AquaMan Ua
Hello. I am asking you for a hint on how to solve the problem with my touchbook Panasonic CF53-2 standart model. After setting up the BIOS, the laptop displays the wrong image until Windows loads. (More precisely, it displays, but distorted, instead of the Panasonic image immediately after turning it on, it displays what is in photo #1 in the attached file) Then the image appears when Windows starts loading and then there are no problems with the screen until the reboot. If you enter the BIOS, just a black screen. If you connect an external screen, the image on it is the same as on the built-in...

Kenwood Food Processor A532 - Magic Smoke
                by tmcw
My Mums food processor made a couple of loud bangs and emitted quite a bit of magic smoke a week or so ago. I took it apart to have a look, and as you can see on the attached photos, one of the capacitors on the circuit board blew open.

There is another capacitor on the board, but it's slightly narrower than the one that blew open. The still intact one is about 5mm thickness, whereas the one that blew is 7 or 8mm thick, so they're probably not the same part.

Can anyone tell me what I need to look for as a replacement? Is it a special type of capacitor?

                Panasonic SA-MAX770PU SMPSU board fault....
                by Rictech
                Hello everyone. 😀

As per thread title, this unit has a serious SMPSU fault. It blows F1001, which is a 10A M205 in the phase from the mains input.
Very first thing I tried, was simply replacing the fuse, but the replacement ceramic fuse blew immediately.

Looking at the schematic for this PSU, I then removed what I thought was the next likely candidate: D1001 - the HV main bridge rectifier.
This isolated the fault(no longer blows the main fuse), but does not point me to the actual fault.
There are no devices that have exploded or otherwise show signs...
