At least you didn't say: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/images...es/lolsign.gif That's OK, I deserve it.
I tested the other four strips with the same PS - but only for about 1-2 seconds. Do you think I caused much/any permanent damage to them? I'd like to know before investing any money in buying a new strip.

I could not tell you for sure if they are damaged or life is shortened or not.

Hey, the TV actually works! For how long, who knows? I replaced the blown LED with one from a broken computer monitor. Works fine, but it's a little brighter and there's a small 'ghost' on the screen. If it plays for a week or so, I will try to find the correct LED. Thanks for all the help.

well... there is another trick. replace the bad led with a zener diode.

Wouldn't that leave a dark spot in the grid? Each strip has 9 LEDs and there are 5 strips.

If you have all white screen then you may notice it, but when you watch moving images you may not notice at all unless some one point out the location of the bypassed LED.
BTW, you should turn down the backlights level so the LEDs will run cooler.
The typical current for LED in TV is in 100's mA range so what ever you put in must be able to handle that much current.

Thanks for the tips. I've had it on about 4 different times for an hour with no issues. The 'ghost' only appears when the background is white. You hardly notice it with darker colors. I turned down the bl level from 20 (max) to 7. Didn't help with the 'ghost' and the picture still looks good. I may experiment by adding a small shade right above the LED. My goal is not spend any more than the cost of the TV - $5 at a garage sale. Now, if I counted my time, that would be another matter.

"Now, if I counted my time, that would be another matter." but if you think of how much you learn from the times spent on this project, the knowledge you gain from this is worth way a lot more.
