    Samsung ln40a530p1fxza (white screen)

Hey guys! I have done a little research and I haven't quite figured out what's going on with my TV.

I have read that the older Samsungs have fuse problems on the T con board. I am just dangerous enough with a multimeter to mess something up, so I can take some readings if need be.

When I turn the TV on it is either super, super white and/or a negative image (not solarization). I unplugged the t-con board completely and reinstalled it to have the image come in completely fine for <60 seconds and then go back to white. Attached are pictures of the screen and T-con board.

This board is known for having bad AS-15 GAMMA ref Voltage IC problem that causes washed out pictures, see if that IC gets very hot to touch.

Well holy crap. I've never been on a forum where the first answer was appropriate, concise, and accurate. That chip gets painfully hot after about 2 seconds of the TV being on.

I own a soldering station and have minimal skill with that. I know that these require hot air to remove/replace, usually. So...what's my next step?

Order the IC and carefully remove and install the new IC, those traces lifted off very easily so take your time doing the repair, if you are not good with soldering and do not have proper tools to do SMD rework, then have some one else with proper tool (hot air station) to do it for you.

Thank you! Are there any services that will do this that I can mail the board to? I see that shopjimmy has a repair service but for $80 which is a good percentage of what I consider the TV to be worth to me.

At that point would I be better to buy the entire board from eBay or somewhere similar? I thoroughly appreciate the help.

A local repair shop, or computer repair shop should fit the chip for you for far less than $80.

For some reason I thought the TV repair places would just swap boards/etc. Called a semi local one up (all the local ones had crappy reviews) and the guy said they can do it for ~20-30 if they supply the chip, and less if I supply it.

Thanks guys, I'll up date this thread with the results!

So I finally got around to ordering the part and I installed it tonight. The problem is fixed! Or is it? It came back up after leaving the TV on for a few hours, and then it went away on its own... any other ideas? I'm right at the $$$ amount that a new TV seems like it'll be a better option.

Did you put the pink thermal pad back on top of that IC?

This is the exact part I installed. It was said to have been pulled from a working TV.

I guess it's possible that this one is bad too?

If it came back and went away on its own, I would recheck your soldering and see if theres any lose connections. Reflowing would be a good idea also.

The new-to-me board was installed and ever since then the picture improves for about an hour, and then starts to looking super saturated and then goes to being washed out. For a few minutes it went to looking negative again.

Thinking about returning this board and calling it quits with this TV unless anyone else has something I should try.

I replaced the entire t-con board with a 'new to me' board from eBay that was pulled from a damaged panel TV. My soldering skills are not up to the task of replacing the component.

I would mostly say probably you got a bad tcon from them.

That's good to know. I will return this one, eat the shipping cost, and try one more time. Thank you.

Did you try cleaning the tcon ribbon cables and re-seating them?
