Westinghouse W33001 - Green Light, No Picture...Bad Inverter?

I was just given a Westinghouse 33001 that shows a green light but no picture. This is a TV from around 2004; I'm not expecting a miracle in getting this thing working again but I am getting better at troubleshooting thanks to the forum.

Power is getting to the inverter, readings are as follows (using Figure 1 as a reference, from top to bottom):

    First Cable:
    0
    .977
    0

    12.10

    2nd cable:

    12.10
    12.10
    12.10

    12.10

Past that, I'm at a wall. I don't know what to check next.

The service manual can seemingly be found here but a download link didn't show up for me:

What should I check next? I'm using a Fluke 70 III. I could spend $25 on a replacement inverter but I'd like to make sure first. Thanks in advance.

    try testing fuse F1.

        Fuse F1 seems good.

this is just a guess but sometimes there is another small fuse located around ic1, could be on the board between ic1 and cn2 and is usually marked with a letter ie: F

I'm not sure I'm seeing that. Does Figure 2 show you anything?

How about the pictures of the whole backside of the TV that shows all the boards?
I am surprised that the inverter board is running at 12VDC not 24VDC like most inverters are for TV. There are also control lines on the inverter board that you need to check: BL-ON, and DIM control line.

I was going to post exactly what you said but didn't think it would help. To get to the inverter board, you must do the following:

                First remove the back,
Then remove a metal backing that is used for wall mounting,
Then remove a flimsy shield covering the power/main board combo,
then remove THAT board, remove the entire back of the LCD exposing the T-CONN and inverter.

It's pretty much a neat sandwich. Not exactly fun to get to. I'm glad designs are better nowadays.

What else can I check on the inverter board?

You need to verify that the power supply section that supplies the Voltage to the inverter board is supposed to be 12V or 24VDC, that is why we need to see the pictures of the board, so far shopjimmy does not have this model in the system.

There is no power supply board. It's powered by an a "brick". I apologize for not making that clear initially. Still learning. :|

Holy crap, what a piece of junk this TV is. I cannot read the Voltage rating of the power supply, pictures are way too blur to read anything.
The key is this, do you see the backlights flash on for second? if you do then it is getting the BL-ON command to turn on the backlights but the circuit detects the problem so it goes into shutdown, but if you do not see if the backlights even flash on for second then you need to verify if you do have BL-ON command first, this is not going to be easy since the connectors on the inveter board are not labeled with the pin names.

Backlights do not flash on, ever.

Something tells me that short of buying another inverter board, this isn't going to be worth fixing....

It can be the inverter board or the main board is not sending the BL-ON and dimming control signals, so without the label of the connector's pins then the tracing of the circuits will be required. I am sure it can be fixed by replacing the boards but to find out which board is bad, that is another story.

Hmmm. I know you are one of the top techs around here so I'd be foolish not to ask: what would you do? Spend $20 on an inverter or send it all to the recycler?

If I have the boards in front me I would trace out the circuits, it is good for learning any way.
You can try a new inverter board if it is only $20 which is pretty cheap.
The way it looks right now, one of the pin only has 0.97VDC which I suspect that to be the control line, typical control line is if it is <1V = OFF, > 2.5VDC = ON.
Those two LEFT pins on the CN2 look to be the control lines, BL-ON and Dimm.
You may be able to force on the inverter board by using the resistor but you have to remove those two pins from the connector CN2 first, then use two 2~3K resistors, one resistor each from 12V pin to each pins of those two pins.
