Hi guys,
I have an HP Elitebook 8560p which works for a while, then suddenly powers off.
I check the MB and I found a small cap exploded near a 6912 MOSFET (there were 3 such caps in parallel). I replace it with a 2 uF cap and the interval of power off events increased a lot. Initially the laptop was stopping at, in average, every 15-20 minutes, now it works for hours but it still stops once or twice per day.
I also replaced the 6912 MOSFET but it did not made any difference.
Unfortunately I don't have and could not find a schematic for this laptop so I'm...
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Re: Asus fx505dt
Ok, I was able to properly read the chip. The dump is attached.
Thanks,

Re: Macronix 1.8V serial flash memory
I bought a Pololu level shifter adapter but each time when I read the chip I get a slightly different content (I'm checking using MD5SUM). After 2-3 read operations flashbios no longer see the chip. After a few minutes I can read it again.
I checked the voltage - 1.85 to 1.9V. Any idea what I am missing?
Thanks,
B

Macronix 1.8V serial flash memory
Hi,
Having an Asus FX505DT with a broken BIOS, I pulled the BIOS chip - a Macronix MX25U12873F - to read what's left in it. I noticed the chip is a 1.8V chip while my RaspberryPi provides 3.3V on GPIO lines.
I also have an USBASP programmer but it supports 5V and 3.3V voltages.
Any idea on how to safely interface the little guy to one of the readers?
Thanks,
B

Re: Asus fx505dt
Thanks for your answer... I pulled the chip but then I noticed it's a 1.8V chip and my raspberry pi provides 3.3V. Looking for a solution at the moment...

Asus fx505dt
Hi,
I'm looking for a BIOS dump for this model. The kid stopped the inadvertently started BIOS update midway and the laptop is bricked now.
On a side note, would this work in my case?

Re: HP Elitebook 8560p Bios Dump
Well, there is an archive attached to this thread, in the second post. The file in it is larger than the size of the BIOS chip this motherboard has.
The chip is a MX 25L6406E and you can fit in it a 8192 Kbytes file. The file in the archive has 8196 Kbytes so it won't fit. That's the part I need help with.
As for the reading of the original BIOS chip, I didn't do that as my chips programming setup is primitive and requires soldering wires. I just had an identical chip which I used to write the bin file...

Re: HP Elitebook 8560p Bios Dump
I'm talking about the archive from the 2nd post by TECHMAN1025 in this thread.
My original BIOS could be corrupted, that's why I'm looking for a valid dump for an HP Elitebook 8560p....

Re: HP Elitebook 8560p Bios Dump
I realize I'm a bit late to the party but, when extracting the file from the archive - 8560p_Clear me.zip - I get a 8193KB file which is 1KB larger than the size of BIOS chip.
I am missing something ?
Thanks,
B

Re: HP Elitebook 8560p - dead
I actually found one BIOS dump here, called "8560p_Clear me.bin" which is 1KB larger than 8MB which is the size of the BIOS chip. Obviously, it didn't fit in the chip. So I just got the one from https://www.laboneinside.com/hp-elitebook-8560p-bios-bin/
What do you mean by "clean my region to the original one" ?
Thanks.Re: HP Elitebook 8560p - dead<br /> ... is 1KB larger...

HP Elitebook 8560p - dead
Hi guys and A Happy New Year!
I have an HP Elitebook 8560p which, according to, supposedly, the original owner, died during a BIOS update. At the moment when I got it, the laptop would start from time to time, most of the time though it would blink CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK.
At some point I was able to enter CMOS setup, to run a memory test, to access the information page and it even tried to boot. There was no drive in it so no luck with that.
After trying some WIN-B/WIN-V tricks, I was not able to start it again. The laptop only blinks CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK...
