    Sony Wega kdf-55e2000

Hey I got this TV and turned on and worked fine the later turned off. The light blinks red 5 times. Sony said that means a bad tcon board. I took the TV apart and the only visual damage is what I believe is the optical block. Anyway I'm trying to figure out what is the tcon board and is there a way to test it.

On a side note I have ordered two new lamps tried them and they would work then after a few hours the TV would be blinking red so I ordered just a new bulb and put it in the original housing and nothing.

OK now this is what I believe is the lamp driver but I don't know. I'm thinking this may be the piece that needsbto be replaced. The part in my hands is the part the lamp plugs into. I thought this was a power supply but now I don't know.

So would that be what the lamp plugs in too which I'll try again to post a picture of. And would that damage on the optical block cause a problem?

OK the ballast part number is bau-1001//q and I can't find one online but someone elsewhere said that a different part number ha01641 would also work the same and there is one on amazon for sale. Does anyone know if this part will indeed work with my TV please and thank you

Ok your thread gets overlooked because you are talking to yourself and it seems you are being helped via the post count.

Ok 5 blinks means Tcon yet you change lamps?... Then you say its a bad ballast????

Slow down there, You do not know what a T-Con is so you don't know very much if anything about TV repairs... It is one of the basic boards of a TV.

Provide pictures of each board and one of the entire back of the TV so we can see how everything is connected.

And yes I changed lamps because when I first looked it up I saw people say I g bad bulb. But then I was looking for people who changed the bulb and still had a problem and I heard the lamp driver was bad. I called Sony just to see what they said and someone said tcon board but then when I called back and asked for a price they said they can't give diagnosis so I don't know why I was told tcon but I called a technician and they said the tcon is built into the main board. I'm really just confused but the diagram I uploaded says that 5 blinks is a lamp driver which I'm assuming is the board with the cable that the lamp plugs into.

I am looking at one that's given to our Church and it has a dim picture with a new bulb.
in a dark room the picture looks good. Odd that the menu is dimmer than the video though. I have P.S. out and inspecting it. I was not aware there was a ballast until seeing your post. I left the TV at the Church and have the PS board. Guess I will get the ballast out tomorrow. I found no obvious problems on the P.S. The ballast board looks easy enough. Probably just jinxed myself.

I downloaded the service manual. As my luck would have it, it does not include the ballast board. T appears to have about everything else. I will look at it Friday. About the only used items are available are bulbs. guess its time to upgrade, if I cant fix the ballast.. Had nothing to loose it was free.

If the picture is dim with a new lamp the ballast is unlikley the problem. The problem is most likley due to a dusty/dirty light engine or the optical filters could be burnt causing poor light transmission.
They are getting too old and not worth spending any money on them.

The light engine is the complete assembly of mirrors, polarizer filters, some consider the optical block as the lcd/prism assembly.

The light tunnel, see picture (only in dlp optics) is only part of a light engine, a bad light tunnel will usually cause a shadow on one of the sides, top or bottom of the picture, and usually will not effect the whole picture.

LCD projection does not use a light tunnel or color wheel.

I found this information but disassmbly of the optics is not an easy job and not for everyone.

If this tv came from a smokers house (or Bar) or dusty environment cleaning may be next to imposible, and what can happen when dust builds up in the fans etc. cooling is not as efficient and the polarizer filters burn or get discolored and don't pass light very well.

                                          Hello everyone,

I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. I thought ok these caps and likely other components on the Tcon are shorted so let's try a replacement Tcon. I just received the...

                                          by thelankanguy
The TV shows a black screen with no image.
TCON ribbon connectors were disconnected individually for image and there was no half image even.
Later both ribbons were disconnected and TCON voltages were tested.
12V, 3.3V, 1.8V were seen present but VONE signal reads 0V.
There is also a short to ground in this circled inductor.
Is this a TCON issue or something else ?...

                                          Hi,

I have this problem with my Sony 55' AG9.
                                          It flashes 4x.
I have found the service manual, and seems it is the TCON.

Before I buy a TCON can someone check the vid?

                                          Thanks in advance!...

Hi, hoping for some views on this one which I've not come across before. The TV generates an image that has 12 noticeable bands across it. The image is still there and accurate, but the colour (or perhaps the brightness) changes gradually across each band which creates a noticeable 'step change' at the edge of each band. Given it's a 4K TV with 2160 rows of pixels, I'm guessing the 12 bands correspond to 12 gate drivers of 180 rows each. If this guess is right, then perhaps:
                                          a) all the gate drivers are malfunctioning the same way (which seems unlikely), or
                                          b) the Tcon board is malfunctioning,...

Sony KD-70X690E Bravia; Bad TCON? Bad panel?

What's wrong with my TV: the TCON, the panel, or something else? I'm stuck.

                                          Problem:

Last week, my Sony KD-70X690E 70" stopped displaying a picture. The TV powers on, and the back lights power on. However, the TV doesn't seem to boot up. I say this because the SONY splash-screen logo does not display, nor does any picture display, nor can I invoke a menu by pressing "Menu" on the remote. Other than back-light bleed, the screen is black.

My troubleshooting got me this far:

With the left-hand TCON to bottom-board ribbon cable...
