    Vizio m550nv

    Hello,

I Received this TV from a family member that had it for maybe 2-3 years. From what I was told, the TV would periodically go to a black screen, or shut off as they would say. But, from what I have read about the TV automatically doing app and firmware updates, that it sounds like they may have mistaken updates to the set for shut downs.

Either way, the set now has nothing but a black screen when turned on... The logo will alternate between orange and white for maybe 30 secs, (warming up the backlight?) then stay solid orange. After that, hitting the power button again causes the logo to change to solid white. Unfortunately, that's it. No VIZIO logo on screen, the power dial on the side brings up no menu prompts.

I have tried all the inputs, as well as cycling through inputs with the remote. I have also unplugged for a hard reset, as well as unplugging, and holding the power dial in for 30 secs. (Which I read was another way to do the reset?) I don't have any testing equipment, and I'm not sure if I would know what I was doing even with instruction....

NOW, on the other hand. I don't have any issue at all when it comes to installing a new board if needed. From what I have been reading a lot of times it sounded like replacing the power supply board fixed the issue. A couple of posts though had said a new T-con board did the trick.

I have contacted a seller in advance about exchanging one board for another if the first one I tried just by guessing didn't work... I know it's not the smartest way to go, but for what this set can do, I feel like it is worth a couple hundred bucks at most to fix. I know it is not much to go on, but maybe even an educated guess could help.

Thanks in advance though to anyone that tries.

Bit hard to say what it might be, would help if you can check voltages from PSU etc...

Someone else might know what board the symptoms point to but if not and without some kind of troubleshooting you would just be replacing boards at random basically..

First, you need to provide good clear pictures of the whole back side of the TV, and the boards.
You will need to check the Voltages and signals on the power supply board to see what is missing.

OK, so I know I may be asking quite a bit from someone to try and guess based on what I have presented so far. So... I'm thinking I WILL go ahead and pick up a tester and maybe someone from here could walk me through what to do?

I have been building PC's for about 10 years now so I'm not completely unfamiliar with hardware like this, as far as testing voltages though, the only part I have ever used a meter on was when I replaced the laser module on my old Xbox lol...

Anyways though, I'm sure if someone explained where I needed to test ect, I should be able to follow any instructions that are given. Thanks again to any help provided.

Ah, thanks for replying Agent and Bud. Looks like you replied right before me heh. When it comes to what meter I buy, is there anything in particular I should make sure it tests for? I think the best one they have here at the local Walmart is only like 30$. Plus I think it has alot of auto functions that might help someone like me?

I will go ahead and start getting some pics together, I will hopefully have everything together here in a few hours. I will still keep an eye out here in case you mention anything else I might need.

          Thanks again.

For basic tests just about any meter will be fine. As long as it can do DC and AC Volts (with a 500v AC or higher range in case you need to measure on the primary side of the PSU), resistance\ohms, and has a diode\continuity test - which 99% of them do.

A $30 one from Walmart will likely be just fine. It won't be as good as a Fluke or anything but it will work.

Just avoid the really cheap ones, they can be a bit of a safety liability...

Vizio M65-C1 | Logo appears for 10 seconds then off
              by Bob1394
I have used the search, and am stumped.

My Vizio M65-C1, Vizio logo appears for about 10 seconds then goes off.Power LED blinks 15 times then the TV powers down.

I have read through many threads on the M65-C1 including the following threads. I feel like I must be looking right past the solution to my problem:

Vizio E701i-A3 Vizio logo flashing then turns off
              by Super360
Ok so here's the story. I was watching tv one day when all of a sudden I heard a pop from the back of the tv set and rushed to unplug the set. By this time the tv already had smoke coming out the back. It was not storming or inclement weather that day to cause a power surge to the best of my abilities. When I opened the tv up, I found that the three capacitors on the psu (highlighted in red) were all bulging and looked they had exploded. I replaced all of them right away and when I went to start up the tv after the "fix" it started just showing the flashing vizio logo as soon as power...

Vizio V555-G1 stuck on wallpaper; now stuck on V logo
              by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it's getting stuck on the wallpaper. When I first power it on it goes to the V logo, then a black screen for about 15 seconds, then a Chromecast error for just a few seconds, and then finally to a wallpaper. It stays frozen on this wallpaper and does not respond to anything on the remote besides power on/off. Likewise the buttons on the tv do nothing either (besides power). I did the "reset" by holding the volume down and input buttons together for 10 seconds. It showed a message at the top of the screen saying it was Wiping Data and would restart soon. After...

Vizio D32f-E1 Powers on, has backlight, won't boot/no logo, no menu or video
              by JaquesPratt
I have a Vizio D32f-E1 LCD TV that does NOT have a TCON board.

This TV recently went through some 'death throes' and now won't boot. The first problem that began to manifest was while watching tv, the screen would 'freeze', and the image would dim over a few seconds until it was very dark. HOWEVER, the audio of the show would continue as normal. I could power off the TV for 5-20 seconds, power back on, and the video would be normal. This would occur 1-3 times when the TV was first started, and would not happen again after the TV was 'warmed up'. Not ideal, but this glitch was manageable....

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.
