Insignia LCD 50L240A13 NO power deader then a doornail

    Insignia LCD 50L240A13

Symptom: Zero power what so ever!! no standby light up front. will not power on via remote or pressing side ON button. A basic set with 2 boards jumping out at you under the cover. Main board and PS.

First check, fuse was fine on PS. Before assuming PS board. This model runs the stand by and turn TV ON from the main board. So if the main board isn't getting power or isn't operating properly the set will simply not turn on. When I have the plug in from the wall outlet to the PS board. I am only measuring .003 at the 5v standby pin (5vsb) on PS board.

Would you boys venture that no voltage at the 5vsb pin is enough hard evidence for a PS replacement? CAPS visually look good and without taking all of them out of circuit don't want to measure each one for accuracy.

Will get a couple PICS uploaded but only have an Iphone for camera and i know that doesn't present the best resolution for uploads

luv to hear your feedback!! found a few of these boards cheap cheap (but used)

Couple of pics snapped from iphone (I know not the greatest)

should mention in this picture if you look near the top left of the picture just below the far left capacitor. Indications of what look like a "burn" mark are quite visible on the PS board

on the secondary side check the rectifier diode on the 5 volt rail. Maybe it is shorted?
Check the power supply out on the back side. There may be some other surface mount stuff where the burn mark is.

Cap leaker: yes there is a surface mounted component at the bottom of the board where the burn mark exists. However, underside shows no signs of a struggle

nomoresonys: yup, I agree, with only .003 reading on my meter I suspect a bad PS. Again, this measly .003 read is at the 5v standby pin with tv plugged in. My logic says "no 5v at standby pin" = bad PS?

              Here is component in question

yes I'd try a power supply, looks like you found a good deal on one.

What do get at the 5VSTBY if you disconnect the cable to the main board.
BTW, the components in question are in the backlights circuit and I cannot clearly see the damages in the picture. Also the picture does not show all the boards.

Thanks everyone that replied!! Got this one beat!!
No 5v standby "anywhere" was enough hard evidence for me. The burn mark on the top of the board hinted the IC on the bottom wasn't happy at some point??

I replaced the board with a brand new one!! $53 free shipping from here:

                    https://www.partstore.com/Part/Best+...92010/New.aspx

I did learn "insignia" is best buys house brand tvs and they do sell replacement parts direct!! Ironically enough, I could not find a good used one cheaper then a new one anywhere!! Shopjimmy and especially ebay!! Some prices for outdated tvs on ebay are getting ridiculous!! Some sellers shaking their heads wondering why they've relisted the same board 20 times??

Anyways, alls well that ends well. $53 and the insignia has risen from the dead!!
