I ended up lowering the LED current to 117mA without seeing much difference, perfectly ok for me.

This decreased the stabilized core temperature to about 40C increase over ambient temperature. So in my 10C basement that means 47C.

Now the only thing left to do is to figure out how much money I can charge for spending 20h repairing a TV that costs new $200CAD. Well I guess sometimes it's not for the money. :-)

I have the same board and problem. Looking to replace l1 inductor with a new part. Would a 47uH 6A part be acceptable?

The inductance looks about ok. 6A is well above what I measured .

Well I'm glad I found this thread, I just wish I found it sooner. Now I don't feel like a moron for spending several hours trying to fix this shitty tv to no avail

Hello all. I'm new to this forum as a member but have been into electronics since the days of vacuum tubes and this thread is exactly on the subject I've been looking into. I picked up for a buck an RCA RLDED3258A with hopes to be able to put it in our small travel trailer. I was told " it has sound but no picture " and I've seen this before in these P.O.C. units and ,sure enough, it had one burned out LED back light. After tracking down and installing a replacement LED, I checked for any defective parts and all looked good. I fired it up and, after the normal wait , I got a bright flash from the LEDs but then nothing. I figured from this that the LEDs were good as well as the FET and L1 as it would repeat this every time I fired it up. I would like some advice as to where to go from here. Any ideas? Thanks. Bob

You need to check the Voltage feeding the Anode of the LED string to see what it is when it flashes and when it goes black, and are you sure that there were no shorted out LEDs beside the one that burnt up and goes open circuit?
Did you verify that all the LEDs come on when you had the LCD panel apart after install the new LED?

It's after midnight here now but I'll do the check in the a.m. Yes, all LEDs flashed and I was able to test each LED with my meter on diode check. Each one glowed at equal brightness: no shorts or opens.

How do you test MOSFET in laptops ?
                  by Jane
I tried to use this method:

                  Testing an N-channel MOSFET:

Step 1: Discharge the Gate (turn off the MOSFET)
Place the black probe (COM) on the Source (S) and the red probe on the Drain (D). The multimeter should show no continuity (high resistance or "OL" – open line).
Then, touch the black probe to the Source (S) and the red probe to the Gate (G). This discharges any stored charge in the Gate, turning the MOSFET off.

Step 2: Charge the Gate (turn on the MOSFET)
Now, place the red probe on the Gate (G) and the black probe on the

Corsair CX750M [Model 75-002019] - burned output toroid inductor
                  by momaka
Looks like I may need a little help from the PSU experts (or anyone really! ) I have a Corsair CX750M (Model 75-002019) that I picked up for free about 4 years ago. This is the PSU:

So here’s what’s strange about this one: it appears to work normally (normal output voltages) and any PC is stable with it. However, after a while (typically 10-20 minutes, but time can vary depending on the load), there is a sweetish smell of burned magnet wire insulation emanating from the PSU. Upon opening the PSU after this happened (many times), I was able to confirm...

VGA MOSfet permanently shorted and loss of MOSfet pad
                  by Nooy
Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

                  by Reintar
First of all, I'd like to mention that I'm a novice when it comes to laptop repair, although I do have some experience with soldering.
One day, my laptop experienced a severe stutter, and after rebooting, it failed to boot into Windows. I decided to disassemble it and found that the PL900 component was blown. Later, I came across a post (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...error%E2%80%99) with the same problem, where...

Asus X712EA 3 volts after the first mosfet
                  by AppleLover123
                  Hey guys,

i have a asus motherboard here and as the title says after the first mosfet (in the picture) there is nothing more than 3.15v.
I injected 19v and max. 1 amp at the charging port and there is not voltage drop or smth. It's just taking 19v and 1 milliamp.
Then i tried to inject 19v and max 1amp after the current sensor and there it first takes 19v and 4 milliamps and after 2 seconds it is taking nothing (no current).
I measured on the coils on board everything seems fine. Also the main power rail is not shorted (infinite resistance).
                  Now i thought something...
