I know this is an old thread, but for the record, I had a very similar problem. Backlights would flash on for a second then go off. It seemed like the Protect3 circuit was the problem. I hit Q1500 (2SK2417) on the inverter board, which I think initiates the protect circuit, with a hairdryer for a couple seconds and boom it lit up and stayed lit. I then hit Q1500 with cold air can and it shut down and wouldn't re-fire until I heated it back up again. The Zener Diode in that circuit is a very specific voltage (and kinda hard to find) it may be suspect as well but replacing Q1500 (and Q1550, 2SK2417 for good measure) indeed fixed it.
