Vizio VO42L FHDTV10 Cover off No Master or Slave

I have this 42" Vizio TV that would start to FLICKER, STROBE after 3 or so minutes, and then go black. IF I turn it off, the same thing will happen after 3 or 5 minutes.

I read many threads and purchased the Capacitors to replace on the Master and Slave inverter boards, but to my surprise when I took off the back, it did not look the same as others. No small board at all on the right side, and a bigger board on the left.

    Cover off:

Closup of cover on bigger board on left:

Any suggestions as to what to look at next?

I never did see anything when I would try and put a flashlight up to the black screen to see if anything was actually being pictured on the screen. Could never see NO SIGNAL, etc.

    Thanks, For any help

Here is # on the only inverter board on the LEFT.

Here is the complete INVERTER BOARD

The caps seem ok, on this board. Should I replace this board or look elsewhere?

I get good picture until it warms up, then flicker / strobe, then black screen.

    Thanks

I'm no expert, but have fixed some power supplies, motherboards, accessory devices, TVs and PC LCDs by replacing caps. Your first pic looks pretty much the way I remember the inside of my VO32L. If you compare the brands of caps you find in yours with the good and bad caps lists here you may find you wish to replace at least some of them even if they don't look bad. Bad caps don't always show outward signs of poor condition.

First thing you should do is replace all 3 caps in the inverter board.

Maybe so they are not inline.

                    Thanks for the response.

I finally had time after Christmas to set the TV back up with the back off, and turn it on. The first thing I did was to go into the menu and reset everything to factory. I had been doing so much reading, i.e, people turning their backlight all the way down, and some resetting settings.

Then I hooked up a source to HDMI #1 & #2, #3, &#4, and turned it on. It worked, with no flickering or going to black. So I watched it Saturday, with the back off. Sunday morning before football, I put the cover back over the Inverter, and the Back on the TV and watched for 1/2 a day. Then moved the 32" TV OFF to bedroom, and replaced the 42" back in its original spot. Seems to work great.

Who knows, external cable problem, Vizio computer problem, RESET helped!

Guess I get to return those Capacitors I bought at Radio Shack

Re: Vizio VO42L FHDTV10 Cover off No Master or Slave

                      Hi guys,

I have this same model Vizio with same inverter board configuration (single board) that is strobing when I turn it on. I can definitely see all three caps have gone bad on the inverter board (two show burnt tops, one has protruding bung). After googling the issue, I stumbled upon this thread while trying to find out how to properly replace the caps on the inverter board.

The caps that are on there are rated at 680uF/35V/105C and brand is SA** (photo: http://imgur.com/z4LuAji). I can't seem to find a similarly rated cap under the "good cap" list, so I was wondering:

                      1) how do I determine if an alternative rating is appropriate
                      2) is there a recommended cap for this model/board
                      3) where can I find the "u33 regulator"
                      4) are there any other issues I should check for while I'm at it?
                      5) Is it even worth trying to fix?

                      Thanks in advance,

                      M

You cannot go wrong with PANASONIC FC/FM/FR series.
U33 is on the main board if it uses it.

Great! Thanks a lot. I ended up getting a set of Rubycons from Digi-Key, tho the Panasonics were a close second. Caps just came in the mail, so wish me luck!

Did replacing the 3 capacitors on the Invertor fix your Flickering?, I finally am trying to fix mine again. It has a picture that is flickering with ghost type Zones across screen. My caps don't look damaged at all on the investor board., but willing to replace if it fixes problems
