I have a westinghouse tv (EW50T5KW) that has horizontal distortion, like an old TV broadcast that has poor signal. If I unplug 1 of the ribbon cables from the t-con board, the problem goes away, of course this is blacking out half the screen. I bought a used t-con board off E-bay and it has the same result, both t-con boards also makes a high pitch whining sound, until I unplug 1 ribbon cable. Do you think I have received a faulty t-con board, that coincidentally has the exact same issue, or could this be a video board problem? I have cleaned the ribbon cable ends with alcohol to no avail. Also did some tapping around with my finger while it was on (staying away from the power supply) and it does not seem to change anything on the screen. I can post pictures, or even a video on Youtube of the screen distortion if that helps. Thanks for reading.

Sounds like a panel problem, was there spray cleaner used on the screen?
Posting pictures of the guts of the tv will help.
Also if there is damage to the LCD TFT tabs then the panel is toast, only way to check it to break the panel down to the TFT board that the t-con is plugged into.Comment

Yes, I will post a picture as soon as I get home tonight (2am). I suspected the same thing but, when I unplug the 1 ribbon cable from the T-con board, the 1 half of the screen looks perfect. I thought if the panel failed, then the whole screen failed. Thank you for the reply, I think i might post a video on Youtube. I don't know if a cleaner was used on the screen, as it is a friends TV. I will ask him tomorrow, we are on separate shifts.Comment

I think I have found the problem. Upon taking it apart further down to the panel, I found one of TFT ribbons had a burnt or shorted silver area. Thanks anyway!Attached FilesComment

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. I've recently been given a Sony 8k Z8H. It's got a white screen with two vertical black bars. At times it's given me the 5 blink Tcon code. Testing voltage on the Tcon I can see some low or missing voltage. I've done a basic visual check of cables and the COF. Not seeing anything obvious. The original Tcon seemed to have good caps until turning it over. On the bottom I found maybe 10 caps with both sides of the caps shorting to ground. i have a 65 Panasonic TX-65HX710E using vestel 17MB170 main and Lg tcon.
Few drops of water fell probably near COF and have no display. Tried removing tabs but no.part of display present as if tcon fuse open. However 12v is present and tcon can be felt warm enough that supplies are present. Backlight and sound ok.
Anyone knows if this TCon 6870c-0805A has any special test pins for rgb test?

I have experienced something rather unique and need to find out by the forum what to make of it.
I got in this set, a JVC or Telefunken LED TV whose complaint is that sometimes the set comes up blank with the back lights running. So I switched on and yes there was a blank screen and back lights were running. I checked the fuse on the TCON and sometime later I lifted the set off the table to check the image (the TV has no feet to let it stand upright) and noticed the set was cycling red, green blue, test pattern, blank then all over again doing this. Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort.
