Re: 50" Plama vertical lines - repairable??

The panel in this set is made by Panasonic.

It could be a digital/control board fault or a main board fault. I am looking at how the glitch changes around the channel/input name in the corner, so I'd suggest the main board could actually be at fault.

Quite hard to tell on a Panasonic based panel as the OEM'd sets don't have test patterns built in.

Hmm looks like you have a Panasonic set with this board or a variation of it:

$71. Do you have a digital multimeter to check some basic voltages ?

Are you referring to the small board behind the main board?
        Is that the control board?
I didn't catch that tom66 had referred to it.

        Its Maxent MX5020-HPM.

So you're saying the hidden board is the suspect?

Is the link that mmartell posted the main or the control board?
Is it a good idea to just verify the part number and replace it?

I have a fluke for any voltage measurements.
But I need to get info, I don't have any video electronic experience.

Freeze spray the 3 16v 220 mfd capacitors to the left of the main processor on the mainboard. See if problem gets better or worse. Then try a lil heat too. Seen this multiple times on this model. Yes it uses panasonic guts. They put out a decent picture

Ya sorry, I was suspecting control board, that's the one hidden beneath the main board but tom and freak are much more experts in these matters so definitely follow their recommendations.

The main board is out of stock at shop jimmy.
The part number is the same except for the suffix. On mine it is ---, the replacement is -1-.
I assume its just a newer version of the same part.
In the meantime, I'll pick up some freeze spray.
What is a good way to apply heat? A hair dryer?

Hairdryer works well for the heat.

Who makes this tv ? You need to get the part number from the control board.
it looks like its a panasonic(look at the chip on the board)...

i hope im not doing something wrong by posting my problem here but due to the title i thought it would be a good place.

You can see in post #22 where I figured that out about seven minutes after the post you quoted but thanks for the heads up.

And start your own thread since it's a different make/model.

Doesn't mean a thing!--Set makers will use whatever is available and has the features they want.

Set I have at the moment has at least two visible Sony chips on its mainboard--yet, the name on the front is--

Definitely panel. Your unplugging / plugging in of the Va connector may well have contributed to the demise of the panel. These panels are very sensitive to this.

So then regarding my issue with trying to get a main board replacement.
At shop jimmy and other sites, when I search for QPWB11578Y1G I get results for YPWB or DPWB instead.
Is this the same thing or do I need to get QPWB specifically?

is that your model number?, if not try putting your model number in the shopjimmy search if thats where your searching at.

if its there, it should say what panel numbers it will work with, in the description.

But did you first try the hairdryer method on those electrolytic capacitors on the left of the processor on the mainboard yet?
