    LG 55LW5600 - bad panel?

A friend asked me to look at his TV. The original screen issue (first pic) was the darkened area with an abnormality just to the center of it (always on just the one half of the panel). He admitted to disconnecting and reconnecting the tcon cables while the set was powered on, causing a spark in the tcon. Dead tcon. The replacement works, but now shows quite a few more vertical lines in addition to the original dark vertical bar (see second pic). The rest of the pics are simply for reference.

So I'm guessing it's bad panel, but do they usually die only half at a time? Is it worth poking around at the tab bonds? I really hate this TV's flimsy design, as the entire bezel is nothing but thin plastic that snaps to the frame of the panel.

Bad panel, looks like he could have shorted out the TFT imbedded IC drivers in the Ribbon cables as one is completely void of anything.

Agreed, that is a bad panel

Look for water(Windex) damage, on the panel's PCB.
        Windex victim most likely.
A TV, is not a window people!!!

Windex is terrible for cleaning TV's mainly because it streaks and takes off protective coatings. That's if it doesn't take out a tab bond or two!

TCL 43S423 TCON OR PANEL FAULTY???
            by netgearnetgear
Good day, I have a TCL TV: Model 43s423. After turning ON the TV, the ROKU TV logo appears with fine lines over the whole screen, then after a while there are vertical bands in the middle of the screen top to bottom and the TV tries to update its firmware but I do not have the remote to connect it to my new network connection. Also the Power ON light blinks 2 times in quick succession. When I remove the ribbon on the right of the tcon board the left side of the screen shows but with fine lines. If I remove the left side ribbon and connect the right side ribbon the whole screen is blank with...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
            by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Vizio M65Q7-H1 Red Vertical Strips fixed by tape blocking LC1 signal to half of the panel

            Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

            Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
            by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...

VIZIO E70-E3 Half picture with half TCON
            by Fly_Among_Stars
            Hi,
            I have a VIZIO E70-E3.
Symptoms: Black screen, no picture, but LED backlights are working.
I probed the power board and voltages are as listed on the board.
            Main board appears fine, too.
I believe the problem is either a bad T-CON board, or connection to LCD, or bad LCD.
There are two separate ribbon cables feeding the LCD.
If both are connected, the screen is black.

If only the ribbon cable that feeds the right side of the screen (when viewed from the front) is disconnected, the left side of the screen shows picture and...
