Lg plasma shorted panel shorted buffers?

    LG 60PA6500-UA
Anyone know if a panel with bad COFs or short(s) will damage sus buffers and/or address buffers? Any other collateral damage from a bad panel? I'm wanting to find the same model tv, used, so I have spare parts if needed. ShopJimmy won't take back what I've bought. Thanks everyone!

Yes, the particular panel faults on these damage the top Y-buffer boards. Hence why there almost no top Y-buffer boards in stock, but tons of lower Y-buffer boards. The Y-sustain has nothing to do with their failure; it's the panel, unfortunately.

Re: Lg plasma shorted panel shorted buffers?

Thanks, Tom. Would there be obvious damage, hot spots or burns?
Would it just be the sus buffers or would the address buffers fail also? I've inspected the panel ribbons several times, I didn't see any rubbing damage, maybe LG fixed that issue by the time mine was built.
Could my logic board be damaged? Mine is connected to the 3 address buffers and then the panel COFs after that. Thanks!

Sorry I think I am getting confused - your TV is the one with vertical lines, right?

Yes, Tom, mine had the thin colored vertical lines. The general consensus is the panel is bad. I was hoping to salvage some parts to use if needed on another LG 60PA6500-UA Thanks!

I would say the Y-sustain, Z-sustain, control board, PSU, and main board can be trusted.
            The Y-buffers are a "maybe"...

Thanks Tom, would there be burn marks or anything else obvious on the Y buffers?
Do you think the address buffers survived? There's not many parts on those.
              Thanks!

Re: Lg plasma shorted panel shorted buffers?

The address buffers are probably OK, but then again they are very rare failures and on modern panels are bonded to the panel so they can't be removed.
As for the Y-buffers, since they are not obviously shorted (you would have no image at all) then I would say they are not worth the potential risk.

Re: Lg plasma shorted panel shorted buffers?

Hi I have a question, but I'm not sure where I should ask it. Is this just the reply area ?
My question relates to plasma panel faults. If a panel develops a fault (s/c) that destroys the z sus igbts, what has happened to the panel and can this fault be identified/proved i.e. measured with a meter. My query relates to an LG50PS80E TV that has been diagnosed by a TV repair shop with a faulty panel.

Yes if there is any faults with igbt on ymain it can be tested with meter . I suggest upload pictures of fault.

Re: Lg plasma shorted panel shorted buffers?

Hi Thanks for such a quick reply I don't have any pics to show unless a pic of the whole TV inside, I have removed the z sus board and am in the process of replacing the igbts and fuse. It's just that as the repair mob had said that "the panel module had a short that had made the main board to fail" I was cautious in reinstalling the z sus board just to watch it go "pop " again. So I went looking for info and found this site, I can't imagine what actually causes the problem. If the panel can be checked for s/cs I can save myself some heartache by not going any further.
I think I've attached a pic of the back of the TV.
                        Thanks again

Un70TU7000b Backlights work, no picture, has sound, panel shorted caps
                          by EazyBone
Picked up this Samsung above thinking it'd be backlights but it isn't. Now MAYBE I'll get lucky.
Found some shorted caps among the panel boards. Each cap along the line is shorted. On every board (3 panel driver boards)I disconnect each side right and left ribbons and they are no longer shorted caps and have about 1.5Mohm resistance (on left and right boards). The middle board has the main board disconnected and the caps are shorted. Last 4 pics show arrow to caps.

Now what exactly do I need to do in order to attempt to fix this issue?

do I have to take each one...

                          by canadaboy25
Hey guys, I have a Panasonic plasma here with two black rectangles in the display. As you can see from the picture, they affect the menus as well. Both black rectangles extend to exactly the center of the screen.

I started with the bottom right black bar as it was closest to me on the desk. I found that the two 6.8 ohm resistors pictured were open circuit. I removed them to verify and they were blown. According to the schematic, these are for the 75V VDA rail.

I then did a diode mode test on the load side of the resistor and sure enough there was a short. I disconnected...

                          by mecha1166
I have a customer set, QN55Q8FNBFZXA, with a shorted panel. I cannot find a replacement panel anywhere. Any tips on removing shorts? Where to get replacement? I will open it up and post more info. Panel part number seems to be: BN95-05037A or BN95-04717A (CY-TN055FLLV2V/H).
A model QN55Q80AAFXZA has a BN95-07415A inside, a model QN55Q7FAMFXZA has a BN95-03859A inside. Any compatibility info? I have been getting many shorted Samsung panels lately, even the traveling Mexican groups won't buy Samsung as scrap anymore, they tell me "bad panel."

IR night vision goggles to find shorted panel line?
                          by Lee M.
Has anybody tried to use IR night vision goggles or other thermal imaging device to find a shorted line in a ribbon cable going from a panel driver board into the panel? I would think the shorted line would get hotter than the other lines and might just show up on a thermal imaging device. Just wondering if anyone has tried this and if so did it work?

                          Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

                          I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...
