    Replacing backlights in Vizio V755-J04

I've had this monster for several months as I've hesitated to order backlights for it. Finally did order them and they are due to arrive tomorrow. Besides having ample space to work, are there any recommendations for working on such a massive screen? Should I remove the panel by myself or would 2 people be a better choice? I bought the double-cup suction cups from Harbor Freight and have been using them for the last few repairs on smaller screens. They are far superior to the single cup orange ones I used previously that would often let go without warning 😱.

I have not replaced backlights on a screen this large yet, only up to 60" and there was a lot of flex on that size.. However I used the single cups for that and it went well. I'm just nervous with this one because I REALLY don't want to break it.

    Any suggestions are appreciated 😁

75 is easy once you do it. Just make sure there's a good amount of space between the two suction cups and one person can easily handle it. Once you hit 82 in then it's a little wobbly but still doable by one person with those suction cups. Screens can flex quite a bit so don't worry too much about that. Make sure you use masking tape on the buffer boards and stick them to the screen. Also make sure you run a card under the screen usually a paper one like a business card around the edges because of the glue that holds the TV screens down sometimes.

My advice would be to dont move the screen farther than absolutely necessary.
Make sure point A (the chassis) and point B (the screens temporary resting place) is as short a distance as possible.
No walking across the room with it.
I like to have the landing pad 45° (3 o'clock) to the right of TV.
That way I can lift and turn to the right and place it down.
No need to even walk anywhere.
Think of how a robot arm would do it.

Lightly wet the screen and suction cup with a mist of water for a more secure hold.
Dont use those massive heavy duty suction cups as I have seen them crack the screen screens by themselves.
A HF suction cup primed with water should be okay.
Clear the screen to make sure it doesnt catch as you lift.
I like to put playing cards all around it before the final lift.
Ensures the film connectors at the bottom doesnt catch on anything.
Blue painter's tape is your friend!

As Eazy said make sure your cups are properly spaced to minimize flex of the display as much you can.

      Good Luck

Also good tips. Yes the dual harbor freight ones I've used only, never crack a screen. But those heavy duty ones make me iffy

Thanks for the tips guys. I started disassembly last night and am disgusted with the build quality of this tv. I had help flipping it over (had it face down all this time) and heard cracking while doing so. Both of the upper corners of the bezel cracked completely through, as well as a section of the plastic inserts on the back which the bezel is screwed into. The screen looks okay from what I can see and it has its own metal frame to hold and protect it so it should be fine. I didn't finish popping off the bezel yet.

It's cold in my workspace so I'm sure that doesn't help the plastic, but come on! They couldn't made it a little more durable considering the size and flexibility of the tv 🙄

Show a picture. I have flipped like 300 tvs and don't think I've ever once broke a bezel doing so.. wonder if it has to do with super cold. I'm in Florida so besides this week never had a problem

I'm in Michigan and it was maybe 20 degrees last night when we flipped it. I think I'm going to warm it up for a while before I proceed removing it.

I took everything apart and checked each strip and EVERY LED lights up 😫

Before I ever concluded the backlights were bad I connected my tester to the LED leads and nothing lit up. I'm so frustrated now that I've ordered lights and went through all of this effort and not a single one is dead.

The power supply visually looks good so I hadn't even suspected it after testing at the leads prior.

Whew 😅 scratch that. I rechecked at the leads and the lower left quadrant would not light but the top did. I rechecked each of those strips and the very bottom lit up but started making a crackling sound and it flickered out. Several attempts just got dim light from it, so there IS a "failing" LED on that one strip.

I'm very relieved to have found that.

How does the diffuser/reflector look? Any charring or melting at the spot where the LEDs died?

Diffuser and reflector both look perfect, thankfully! I'll get back to this project tomorrow night and hopefully be back with results Sunday.

All back together and working great! I'm disappointed in how the to corners look though since the bezel cracked on both sides. I tried super gluing them but they spread open again putting it back on the tv and the glue also left a white film on the surrounding area. I went over it all with a sharpie but it's still annoyingly visible 🙄 I'm planning to sell this thing and I already anticipate some people trying to low ball me because of the aesthetics.

I mean, it holds the screen on. I don't blame them for wanting a cheaper price. Part of the game. It's a risk to them.

There's a steel frame that encloses around the panel in this model, thankfully. So technically, no, the bezel doesn't do anything more than cover the metal frame and look "pretty". But that's a technicality because you couldn't convince your average Joe of this lol

Exactly. Plus now you know super glue turns white, there is other glues that dry clear that I feel work better for tv

Did the soft and hard reset options pulling the plug, using the reet option in the vizio menu to no avail.

I checked the mainboard - found some popped capacitors so replaced it - but that did not change the situation.

I checked the t-con board. It is getting good power. Then I removed one ribbon cable to see if I could isolate...

This Vizio came in the shop with no backlights. Replaced all the strips with replacement from Shop Jimmy. Set now has backlights but lights pulsate on left side. Half the screen brightens up then goes to normal then repeats.
Am I looking at a defective strip? Thanks in advance.

Vizio E55-E1 bad backlights or bad inverter?
                                          by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it appeared to have no backlight on. After taking off the rear cover and checking again in the dark I can see that MAYBE one quadrant is lit.. But still it's quite dim. I was going to check the LEDs with my tester, and I found LED 1 and LED 2 + pins on the wire from the inverter, but I couldn't identify a ground. Nonetheless I tried using a mounting screw on the inverter board and also the chassis as ground but regardless my tester reads 300 which is what it reads when there is no voltage draw.

I don't know how exactly to test the inverter itself. Is it...

Have a free Vizio E60-E3 pickup - sound and backlights work. set turns on and stays on for a period then cycles off and back on. NO VIDEO. If I remove left side (from front of TV) of TCON cable - set has pic on right side (from front of TV) with white screen on left side. With right side TCON cable disconnected - no pic on either side.
Does this mean remove right side (from front of TV) tabs ?

Like a second opinion before possibly destroying set....

Vizio E470i-A0 Dark Areas After Replacing Backlights
                                          by x_orange90_x
I just replaced the Backlights in a Vizio E470i-A0 last night and I've noticed the light is not uniform across the panel. There's a patch where you can actually make out a few individual LEDs, the top and bottom of the screen are noticeably darker than the midsection, and the center left is crystal clear. The LEDs I bought were brand new from Amazon.

It was late when I was reassembling it and it had been apart for a few weeks... Did I maybe put the diffusers in the wrong order? That's the only thing I can think would cause this. What's odd though is the section that appears bright...
