    Question about led tv's

So after my last led tv that would turn on and had the backlight turn on but no picture scared me of tv's that have a backlight turn on and no picture. I'm about to pick up a 55" lg led 3d tv that they say powers on and shows a blue screen but I'm afraid they are seeing just the backlight on and it could be another bad panel like my last one. Can anyone shed some light on how frequent these led panels have a short in half of them and show no picture.

    Re: Question about led tv's

I'd say the vast majority of modern LED-LCD TVs with "no picture" are bad panels in one way or another. T-con board fuses are rare failures, and other failures usually allow a picture to show.

That's what I'm thinking. The parts are cheap on ebay I just gotta do the ribbon test to see if it is the panel or not. I'm gonna try and do it at the persons house.

              Re: Question about led tv's

I don't ever see LED tvs in my area that cheap unless they have smashed glass.

Stuff up here gets scooped up pretty fast. I have a few outlets that I get my used/non working panels from, craigslist in my area is chocked full if I WILL BUY YOUR BROKEN FLATSCREENS or DONATE YOUR FLATSCREENS TO ME adds

I have 15 or so in my arsenal at the moment

Yea I went and asked the guy if I could test on thing on it and sure enough it has a bad panel. So he gave it to me for free. LEDs are junk.

how did you determine that? I am curious so that I know what to look for. I have the top of the line 2012 Sammy 55" 3D LED TV and its great for what it is. over 5k hours on it lol never had an issue yet.

OH and stj the parts fairy visits me often I kid I kid, I know if I had more time and better test equipment I too would part out!

Only reason I say that about led tv's is it seems they crack very easily or the panels go bad pretty easy. I didn't mean to say they are junk more or less I probably wouldn't buy one in fear of the screen breaking and being out 1000 bucks and what not.

I unplugged one ribbon cable that goes from the t con or in this case the t con is built in the main board and power the tv on. One side of the screen tried to show a picture but had lines and other half was white. Then turn tv off and plug the one back in and unplug the other ribbon and turn the tv on and in this case it stayed the same just the backlight so that says the side that did not produce a picture is shorted.

that and chips that obviously need a heatsink but dont have one - mainly scalers

Wouldn't be such a big deal if they were repairable. You can fix a BGA soldering problem. You can't fix most panel faults.

I got an extended warranty through the place I bought it from no Samsung hassle they will replace it on the spot or if they dont have the equivilent then I get a huge credit towards another panel. Not a best buy type place I got it through an audio/video specialist place here local.

If this goes then the replacement will be a high end plasma

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                                          Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                                          First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                          Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

                                          Sell or Shim Solar panels?
                                          by eccerr0r
Well, due to my grid tie inverter not accepting high voltages, and the fact that the lions in my solar panels are 36V (72-cell) I think I need to stick with 72-cell.

However I have a few smaller panels that are 36, 32, and two 30-cell. The 36 and 32 together run at 75% efficiency (and subtract more with additional inefficiencies) when running in parallel with the 72-cell panels. The kicker is that the two 30s... generate 0% power when connected in parallel(!)

So now what to do with these small panels?

                                          I could sell them...

                                          Or I could shim them....
