Hello,
Working on a Sony KDL-46S5100 for a friend of mine.
When first plugged in there is no standby light (not sure if this model has one). Press the power button and a light on the bottom turns green and stays lit solid (no error light blinking).
I hear a click from the PSU area, then the back lights come on and the screen lights up like a TV/Monitor would with no signal. Kind of a blue/grayish color.
Pressing the menu or input buttons doesn't do anything.
I checked voltages at the PSU connector and they all seemed correct. 3.3v, 15v, and 12v.
Since the TV powers up and the backlight and screen lights up I am thinking the main board is the likely problem or possibly the Tcon as I can disconnect the cable to the Tcon and the TV lights up just as it did before disconnecting it.
Is there a way to trace it down to the component level or at least which board is bad?
Mainboards for this TV seem a little salty like in the $80-$100 range.
Edit: Mainboard model# is 1-879-020-12
It was kind of dark when I started working on this TV so I will have to wait until tomorrow to get some pictures.
anyways thanks for any info/advise you could give me.
