Re: E390vl help with regulator testing

Right now since I replaced the flash chip I still get 5v on both sides of the 5v fuse on the main board but the standby logo light doesn't light up and the set will not even try to turn on.

Well, did you get it the right way round? Did you damage the pads when soldering it?

The pads are good no damage when soldering.

Ecking I'm not sure what your saying. Sorry. I did a continuity test on the 12v fuse and it read continuity.

I soldered the old chip back in and it still does the same thing. I'm wondering if somehow I shorted something else in the main board.

O another thing I should note is when I went to buy this from the guy he told me it would turn on as I stated in the first post. But when he plugged it in the tv didn't turn on nor the vizio logo as it is doing now.

Ok another update. With the tv just plugged in. A small adj regulator is hot like burning to the touch hot

And that regulator the in has 3.28v. The out has 1.071 and slowly increasing and the adj reads 0. Does this sound like its bad

That does not sound good. Is the regulator running warm? What is its part #?

The regulator is running hot like it burns to touch it. And that's just with the tv plugged in not even on. I don't remember the part number but it's one of the two that I listed in the first post I know that.

I think it reads H 1117C then below it says 1.2v then 207.

It is bad. If it is running real hot you probably have a bad regulator, bad output capacitor or a problem with your load (e.g., a shorted CPU.) An oscilloscope can help check #2.

What's the best way to troubleshoot this. I don't have a ocilloscope and haven't used one before.

I'm wondering if it's the CPU. That would be a flat square chip with a million little solder joints right. Cause there is one next to the flash chip I put in an some solder splashed on some of the legs and I didn't realize it until after I already tried to plug it in.

If you splashed solder like that, are you sure you made no other bridges?

I honestly don't know how I splashed the solder cause I actually made really clean connections. It might have been when I took the old chip off it might have dropped some solder. But I was able to brush it off once I realized it.

Ok so I just checked the tv and took some Picts. I still have the old flash chip in it and just out of curiosity I plugged the tv in after it sitting for over 4 hours and the vizio logo lights up again and does the origonal problem again. So I'm gonna try the new flash chip again and make sure solder doesn't get on anything. And see what happens.

Here is a pict of the flash chip re installed. Now after letting it sit the logo lights up. The tv turns right on and the V logo appears for a couple seconds then the whole tv shuts down ad the logo turns off. Only way to get it back on is to unplug the tv and plug back in
