42" Vizio VW42L Vertical Lines and Crazy Picture!

I got this TV for free, turned it on and there's a bar of rainbow vertical lines. I thought to myself damn looks like another bad panel... However I noticed that the TV wouldn't turn off unplugged (typical voltage regulator problem I read about). I unplugged the tcon, and the lines went away. unplugged one side of the tcon and the lines went to the position where it was still plugged in.

I'm not entire sure if its just the main board. Didn't really want to mess with it anymore thinking it might be a bad main problem AND panel.
But I decided to look at it again today and it did something crazy while I left it on for awhile.

More lines appeared in the screen but then it did a crazy faded transition into blue and green static and etc. See the video! It shows everything, since its kind of hard to explain.

VIDEO OF PROBLEM: (It gets good at around 1:28, and don't mind the music =])

Another one of those bad U33, 1.25Vref + pin1 1.29V the output on pin 2 then should be 2.50V, you are only getting 2.09V, this 2.09V is fed into U7 but it is too low for U7 to work.

I would change U7 while I was in there too. It is common for those two to go bad.

Nice one. I had a bad regulator on 37" BEKO chassis recently. I think that's the 4th one I did. And they're always those SOT223 1117 types. They are OK if kept cold, but I think the manufacturers dissipate too much power in them leading to early failure.

This is actually my first repair on the vizio regulator problem. I've read about them a lot but never actually came across one til now. I even almost gave up thinking it was a panel problem, but I had some extra time due to the current snow storm and decided to take a look.

I would use a heat transfer glue and glue a small heat sink to the regulator. It does take a day to set though.

Hi truep: it's me again, i have the exact same tv modle# and i did repair the inverter boards for the bad caps, and it's running great, but when i turn it off or on it kinda clicks for a few seconds while the caps have charge like a click of a relay or a regulator, nothings that affects the tv , does yours do that?

                        Screen Display Vertical Multicolor Lines
                        by Stanley1843
Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Vizio E70-E3 Two white vertical lines
                        by brad2157
I picked up a Vizio E70-E3 for free that shows Vizio logo and then goes to a black screen. Original owner said he started having wifi issues and then he tried to reset the TV and that's when it wouldn't boot up any longer after his reset attempt. I picked up a replacement main board from eBay that matches the same model # board as the original from the TV.

Original main board - Shows Vizio logo when TV powers on, then goes to black screen. Doesn't boot up. No screen issues with any lines on start up Vizio logo.

Replacement main board - Boots up fine, but starting...

vizio e65 e3 LED tv color vertical lines center tv only
                        by viking509
I recently replaced the led backlights with LB65041 LED Backlight Strips and after putting it back together the backlights work but there are only colored vertical lines only in the center of the tv. I can see the Netflix logo (jumbled) after a minute or less the screen went dark. When I turned it on again the lines were back. Then I replaced the t-con board but the same vertical lines in the picture. My question is what is my next step? Could it be a source tab bond issue? A buffer board issue? Could I have loosened a connection to the panel when replacing the backlights? Should I replace the...

                        Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

                        Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

                        by gpo23
                        Hello,

                        i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

                        Thank you for your help
