Polaroid TDA-02610C No power or standby light

    Hello all,

Got a freebie Polaroid TDA-02610C that doesn't display anything on the screen and the power or standby light doesn't come on.

When I first plugged in the TV the standby light worked, then I could press the power button and the light would turn blue (but still had blank screen).
When turning the TV on I noticed the DVD player made a heck of a racket so thinking the connector (circled in the last pic) might be going to it I unhooked it and tried to turn the TV back on. Got nothing so I plugged the cable back in, then plugged the TV in and got no power or standby light. Did I hurt anything by trying to turn the TV on with that cable unplugged?

I've checked the fuse, the diode at D10, voltages at the big cap 167v at a friend's house and 165v at mine (100yo house with old wiring), voltages at con3 20v@24.2v, 12v@11.9v, 5v has no wire attached but the pin showed 5.1v, 5vsb@5.1v, stb@4.7v. These voltages are steady and are after pressing the power button. Only the 5vsb stays at 5.1 when the power is on or off.

    Con4 has 3 wires connected. A ground, a white bk_on @ 4.9v, and a yellow apwm @ 3.1v.

About 2 seconds after pressing the power button I can hear a single pop that sounds like its coming from the speakers then after maybe 5 seconds there is a red LED that begins to continuously blink.

I have read that a common problem with these TVs are the 2 10uF 450v caps. To my old tired eyes I cant tell if these are bulged slightly or not and my crappy camera and bad picture taking skills makes it hard to see the tops clearly in the pics.

Should I order those 2 caps and give it a try? or is there any other test I need to do first?

    thanks

Rarely do the filter caps go.

Ok take a reading from the 450v caps with set plugged in but not switched on... measure voltage. switch set on and measure again.

    What do you get?

You seem to have all relevant voltages...

Check con 4 yellow wire following same as above.

TV plugged in but switched off top cap is 55.6v bottom is 55.5v. Switched on top cap is 132.9 and bottom is 132.

con4 yellow shows .5v plugged in but turned off and 3.1v switched on.

so its probably not those 2 450v caps then?

does it sound like the caps is the problem?

Re: Polaroid TDA-02610C No power or standby light

The DC voltage on the large main filter 450Vdc cap when in standby should have about 160~170vdc, when the PS_ON from the main board is applied, the voltage should go up to around 380~400VDC range.
Those two 10uf 450V caps are for the backlights inverter circuits.
So check to see if it is getting PS_ON and if the PFC Voltage booster are working or not.

Re: Polaroid TDA-02610C No power or standby light

Just checked the big cap and I'm getting 168v in standby and 399v with power on.

Re: Polaroid TDA-02610C No power or standby light

OK, the PS_ON is working, same for the PFC Voltage booster, BL_ON is working. So the main board is sending the signals OK.
BTW, so you never see the backlights flash on at all? Do you have the way to at least check those two 10uf 450Vdc caps? Since these two caps will need to be replaced no matter what, you can try changing them at least.

Re: Polaroid TDA-02610C No power or standby light

nope no signs of backlights flashing on at all.
I don't have any way to test those caps other then voltage which was around 55.6v in standby and 132v on 1 and 132.9v on the other when powered on.

I'll order those 2 caps and see if that fixes it.

                  thanks

Thanks newtothis and budm for all your help. I really appreciated it.
