    Problem with a Panasonic TH-42PZ80b

Hey every one when i turn my Panasonic TH-42PZ80B on the light flashes green then flashes red and it flashes red 7 times i have checked the ss board and the sc board when i unplugged one or both off them they flash for 7 - 8 times if you need to know how many times it flashes red when either one is discounted just ask would you lot know what is wrong with it?

    Much appreciated

7 blinks SC, SU or SD board.
It's possible to isolate SU or SD board: (page 20)

So, just to confirm, you removed the buffer boards and did the isolation procedure as documented in the service guide and you still got a 7 blink code?

Re: Problem with a Panasonic TH-42PZ80b

I went to slide number 20 and followed the instructions and disconnected the connectors and didnt do the jumper bit but i went to slip number 21 and followed

Physically disconnect the SU board and the
SD board. (See instructions on previous
slide). Plug in the TV and turn it on

              Done

              Does the
              TV shut down
              and the power
              LED
              blink 7 times?

              Yes

With the SU board and the SD board
              still disconnected, remove connectors
SC2 and SC20 from the SC board.
Plug in the TV and turn it on.

              Does the
              TV shut down
              and the power
              LED
              blink 7 times?

              No

              Replace the SC board.

Re: Problem with a Panasonic TH-42PZ80b

You must apply the jumper to complete the test of SU and SD isolation, as instructed in the slide, as 7 blinks can also mean SU/SD not connected fault. If you apply it and the results are the same, the fault is SC or D: isolate SC20 and SC2 and if you get no blinks, it is the SC board.

A cable with alligator clips at either end could do the job. I believe Maplins in the UK sell them.

There is a little green ferrite bead (lead exposed either end) marked L801. If you post a close up shot of that area I will show you where to jumper.

Re: Problem with a Panasonic TH-42PZ80b

You want to connect it here, to the metal lead coming out of the little green thing (L801, a ferrite bead.)

Loosen the rigid-flex cables. Do not loosen the "HV Danger" screws. You want to connect between a "HV Danger" and this little L801 ferrite bead.

Don't make connections while set is energised, as there is high voltage on these outputs (in excess of 400V for a Panasonic plasma.)

You're saying you get 7 blinks doing that test? OK, what is the TNPA..... part number written on the board? Also include the suffix, usually stamped next to the part number, like "AP".
This is the first SC board failure I've seen for these models. I had kind of assumed that it "never" happened, as they're otherwise incredibly reliable.
