    Wharfdale 37LCD1080P faulty

    Hello everybody!

I'm wondering if I could have some assistance please?
I have acquired a faulty wharfdale LCD TV that wouldn't turn on from standby, I have replaced all the capacitors on the psu and it now turns on, it still doesn't work however. The colours are very distorted and doesn't display an image correctly.
    Here is the video:

From what I've read, I think it could be a problem with an IC on the TCon, could that be correct?

I have stripped it down and removed the TCon board, part number T370HW02 V0 06A22-1B.

I put the TCon board back in loosely and tried to test the voltages on the IC but nothing is displaying on screen and I can't change the sources or enter the on screen menu. I'm not entirely sure what I've done.

Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry if my post doesn't make much sense, I'm posting on my phone.

    Thanks
    Dave

I forgot to add, the IC in question is an AS15-F, I will post some close up pictures of the various boards when I'm back at the workshop later.

Did you put the screws through the tcon so it's grounded ?

        Umm........no!

I shall do that later and see if I'm back to where I was. Any ideas on if the IC on the tcon is at fault?

AS15-F would not cause this issue.
If this is a VESTEL set, I would press MENU 4725 to access service menu then select RESET.

            Thanks for the reply Tom!
Wow, I didn't realise it could be something as simple as that! I don't actually have the remote for it, but I do have a harmony remote, could that work to access the service menu?
Could it be a coincidence that the tv had bulging caps and this issue or would it be related somehow?
            Thanks again

You can use a remote for a Philips set (same codes for European TV) or if you can get the MENU button and numbers to work on a Harmony remote that will work OK too.

Thanks again for your help Tom, I'll get the TV put back together shortly and try the service menu in the morning.
I see in your signature that you've repaired quite a lot of TVs, have you ever come across anything similar to what I'm dealing with?
                Cheers

Never myself but I've done tons of Vestel sets and they are unworthy piles of rubbish so it wouldn't surprise me to see another one go bad!

                    Re: Wharfdale 37LCD1080P faulty

Well, I put the TV back together and the problem of nothing on the screen and unable to change sources/menu etc still persists.
I'm not sure what's happened now, I seem to have made it worse. It does have some grey/black banding on the right of the panel with a black background. Any ideas?

Bad news! I've opened up the tv again and had a look at the connections to the tcon, I've torn one of the ribbon cables from the screen to the tcon, it looks like 3 traces are affected. Anything I can do, or is it destined for the skip now?

You need to find a replacement cable; the only thing you can do about that will be to ask someone who's scrapped one of these models for parts to see if they've got one of the cables.

Does that cable terminate with the same type of socket on the other end ?

And wouldn't you still get half an image with one good cable coming from the T-Con ?

Depends on the design, usually though yes half an image would be expected, other half may be blank, distorted or faded.
