    possible purchase maxx tv

Found this tv available pretty cheap, however I cant seem to find any info whatsoever on the manufacturer, suppose to be a plasma. Fault started with vertical lines that would come and go, then screen went black however still has sound and turns on and off normally.

Be careful could have a panel fault and a tfp ribbon ic on tje panel can shut dowb the va voltage.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing: Possible panel issue. Also, IMO, it's too obscure a brand to chase.

        I'd avoid it as well.

Thanks thats kind of what I was thinking as well. Maybe I will offer to remove it for them since there is no documentation anywhere and it will likely be a difficult fix.

Well I ended up getting this tv yesterday, they decided they wanted rid of it more than they wanted paid for it. I opened it up this morning and it is all samsung internals. The panel is S50HW-XD02, I looked over at Electrotanya and didnt get any hits for a manual. I pulled a manual for a samsung hpn5039x that uses the same panel, but has no ysus schematic anyone know where a more complete SM might be located?. The fuse is open on the ysus but I suppose it could have failed from age as this tv was built in 2003.

I did say I didnt get any hits, but that wasnt quite accurate, i did get a hit but it was for a phillips tv not a samsung.....But as it turns out I had a fuse of the correct rating, after pulling the ysus and bufer and testing for shorts (and not finding any) I pooped in a fuse and she fired right up.

its a samsung so watch out for y buffer failure.probably what popped the fuse.
                  will blow up ysus too.

Not sure what caused it to pop in the first place but I will test it out and hopefully it stays working. Its built like a tank and weighs almost as much.

I don't think these suffer from such Y-buffer issues. Fuse is probably one for the 5V or 15V. Nice fix. These are well built sets.

Fuse was on the vs rail, but no shorts found. Ran it for about 3 hours today with no trouble so far. Top does get very warm I'm thinking a fan mod may be in order, although it apparently ran fine for 9 years so far without trouble. Too bad it doesn't have any hdmi. One other question for Tom or whomever may know, the 4 large caps on the power supply have bubbled plastic tops, but the caps underneath are flat would this be caused by the heat of the set ? Haven't seen them do that unless the cap underneath was bulging.

Does it have DVI? HDMI to DVI adapters are easy and cheap. Just a thought to make the TV slightly more useful

Yes it does have dvi as well as rgb inputs, as far as I can tell its only a 720 set. But can't say no to a free TV. I hadn't seen the HDMI to dvi adapters, just for resale everyone wants hdmi

Even though the TV has my name in it I wouldn't bother unless I was getting it for free. Even then... maybe not.

Yeah the plastic tops do bulge with heat... that's normal.

                                    push on the bubbled tops.
                                    if they flatten out ok.
                                    if hard they are bad.

ANy signs of liquid intrusion, or alot of packed up dust blocking the vent holes?
