I have been having a fun time at work with two pieces of equipment that had shorted components or shorted component cables to machine frame
I would check what my multi meter was telling me about how many ohms I getting with the multi meter was telling versus the ESR was telling me about weather or not it really was a short to machine ground or not
One note at first we thought that it might be a bad I/O card or a malfunction PLC including me as well but I thought I would try and see if removing the I/O cables would make a difference or not and this time it did make a difference
The first thing I did was to remove I/O cable card off of the PLC still had the I/O card connector fault then I reinstalled the first cable and removed the second I/O cable connector and then the PLC booted up and the I/O fault went away so I checked for short to machine ground and found the wire that was shorted to machine ground starting from the I/O card cable connector and working backwards towards the valve location I did not have to go very far when I found a section of cable that the installation was worn to the wire on both cable wires and kept going because I still had the short to machine ground and after I went a few more feet of cable is when I found the cable was rubbing on a bracket that holds the hydraulic hose to hydraulic motor after giving the cable some slack and separate the wires from each other the short when away and the I/O fault was gone and no controller errors were noticed but by that time the other maintenance/ technicians had gone home for the day and my boss had also gone for the day as well and I had other duties that I had to get done before I could go home for the day
They will run the machine tomorrow morning and see if there is anything else wrong with the machine which they will take care of because I do not know how to run these machines because they have not trained me how go into the machine controller menu and clear fault this will come in time
