K, on the Z-sustain you have five red capacitors. What voltage do you get across any one of these capacitors? (They are all in parallel, you need to test only one.)

OK, seems quite high... there is a similar bank of 5 caps on the Y-SUS, it is underneath the large heatsink on it. Test the voltages there.

              Re: Lg 42pc1d

There's a fault on one board then. The voltage should be nearly the same between boards. I'm leaning towards the Z-sustain because I have not heard of an ERC voltage that high.

what does ERC voltage mean and how could I further diagnose this/ rectify the problem? replace the board? :/

ERC = Energy recovery, used to recover energy which would otherwise be lost in the plasma panel, to improve the panel efficiency.

Problem is, it's very hard to diagnose without an oscilloscope. Plasmas always are.

Now, if the Z-sus was bad, I would expect you would still get an image, but it would be dim. Too dim to be usable but still visible. But it is possible you have two faults.

well the original fault was the color was distorted until the TV warmed up (couple of minutes) the picture was like a yellow/orange color. if that's any help?

That points more to the Y-sustain, so it does help. I just wish I could be more precise.

I left the TV on to warm up and you still get a little flicker when you switch the TV on and off by flicker I mean the white bits around the screen when it switches on and off ha but definitely no picture I sat pushing menu and ok etc for minutes lol and nothing was happening at all.

ok if you lift the Av board up out the way you will see on the control board the ribbon that go's to the ysus check that is home on both ends and the clips are ok.

I had a similar board with one number off and still tried it to see what the issue could be. The picture came out clear with only missing blue hue I think. I found a replacement board for $30 but wanted to learn if this would be the main IC or possibly something else. I don't have service manual so looking to learn about these cheap sets....

                                            - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                            - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                            - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

Hey, please the attached pics. This TV will turn on (Backlights on) but no picture provided. I tried disconnecting the right side LVDS cable between the tcon and buffer board (pic 1) and then the left side LVDS cable between the tcon and buffer board (pic 2). I get an image each time, but as you can see, there's a discoloration issue happening. But with both LVDS cables connected i get a black screen (BL ON though).
