It's not listed directly but in an image on the blink code page it does specify it.

        Re: Sony KDL-40V4100 inverted picture

Hey tibi I fixed a similar one and have this in my database from before, the info that wound up fixing it was eventually found on this forum. The previous owner had focused on backlight and had tried new inverter, etc, it was just (corrupted?) firmware.

        Sony KDL-40EX400
Problem: Would come on and shut off 3x with 6 LED blinks.
Fix: Firmware update fixed issue. Download from Sony and installed with USB flash drive.

Sony TVs will start the update in this state? I thought, that you have to initiate the update, from with in the menu.

              It's not working for me.
My problem could be something else though. The board it may be bad, it was only $38.

The EX400 series it's a different TV, much newer. I have one myself, a 46EX400. That one needed a mainboard as well.
This one, just clicks when I plug in the cable and then shows the error code.
I have plugged the USB stick in it and plugged it in, but nothing happened.
If I remember correctly, these older Sonys, won't recognize a USB stick at startup. There is in the menu a Firmware update option and it has to be selected.

Ordered another board from rentechtv. Let's see what will change when I replace it.

                      Retech, not rentech.
Yesterday I have got the mainboard from them and it's working as it should.

Tom, another mainboard replaced, and again it's a Sony TV.
Second mainboard that I have replaced in a Sony, but Samsung it's still leading the way.
Thank you AGAIN for your help.

It seems like I've had a ton of main board issues lately as well. What ever happened to the good old days of replacing blown caps.

I have to say in around 52 TV repairs, I have only replaced one main board which did not fix the issue. I am a lot more selective about what I pick up though.

If I would be selective, then I would lose all the TVs. Here in LA it a very competitive market.
It's very hard to sell TVs lately, I have six TVs in my garage right now which are ready to go. Prices are very low also. What I have sold for $360 last year around this time, now I can't sell it for more then $260.

I see the same thing. Other than color, the physical look of the TV's didn't change much from 2006, maybe 2007 to 2010. They've changed so much in the last year or two that the older sets look like antiques. I recently sold a 2008 Vizio 42" 1080p set. I had it listed for $150 bucks. One guy came to look at it and said, something like, "Oh, I thought it was a thin flat screen." It was no more than 4" thick. He passed on it. I was actually surprised because I usually sell to the first person that comes to look.

Well, I tend to sell to low budget people or students, so I'm usually able to sell quickly and at a reasonable price, but typically 25 to 50% less than retail price.

LCD 32" off brand goes for £60 to £80.
LCD 32" on brand goes for £80 to £120.
                                LCD 37~42" goes for £180 to £240.
                                Plasma 42" 720p goes for £200.
                                Plasma 42" 1080p goes for £230.

I saw a formula on here once that I tend to stick to, unless it's a 32". If the set is more than 2 years old, I google the same brand with the same features. I then knock 50% off. For every year over 2 years old, I knock another 5% off. For 32" (I don't work on anything smaller) depending on age and if there is a remote or not, I sell between $100 and $115. Like I said earlier, I believe my pricing to be pretty fair. The fact that I almost always sell to the first person to look at it tells me my pricing is dead on, maybe even on the cheap side. But, I'd rather have cash in hand than a stockpile of working TVs.

                                    Re: Sony KDL-40V4100 inverted picture

I don't really factor the age into the selling price unless its right around 1 year old and thus looks like current models.

Generally I can get 120-150 for 32 inches that are in decent shape (some weeks are worse then others on craigslist though)

                                    And around 200-220 for 42".

Larger models are more hit and miss, but I always list them at around 20% more then what I expect it to sell at, and then lower the price 10% after 5 days. But I never pay much for larger sets that are broken because of the gigantic risk associated with buying them / knowing if the seller is totally screwing you over. So if I can fix it I can pretty much guarantee making 4x what I put into it.

There is definitely a lot of seasonality to the market... But worse for me is that I will see 5 broken sets for sale 1 week, then none for the next 2 months.... And my mother tends to freak out when I have 5 sets over 42" all at once.

Ive never shown a TV to someone and not sold it then and there. Im very straight forward about all visual defects in the listings, I bring a antenna and a battery backup in my car to show it working, and I make sure they've agreed to a price before driving somewhere to meet them because I do not do on the spot negotiating over price.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

                                      Re: Sony KDL-40V4100 inverted picture

So, it looks like, we do everything pretty much the same.
The market is pretty much the same here too, but it may be more competition here in LA.
If I'm not picking up a TV in a couple of hours, that is guarantied that is gone.
Some owners like to deal with the first one that contacts them, but unfortunately there are many out there, that like to get into bidding wars.
Yesterday I have sold a 42" Philips 7442D for $260. I could have got more for it, but I already mentioned the price to the seller.
He was surprised at the price(he asked me, if I'm sure). I had 6 TVs so I had to get rid of some of them, my wife is the same as your mother, if I have to many TVs in the garage.

I have little or no competition, except on eBay. I can often wait a few days to pick them up.

The thing about this one is you already replaced main board with same issue, that really throws you off..

                                          Now Im thinking mine:

has a main board issue too aswell as the backlight problem..
