Sony 32s3000 5 blinks bad eeprom replaced board still 5 blinks

I have a kdl32s3000 that will turn on then switch into standby mode blinking 5 times, you can turn it of then only manually.. at which point you can turn it on with the remote or manually, it will then go back into standy mode and blink 5 times... service manual lists 5 blinks as initialization nvm error, and is bad eeprom or not readable eeprom. Found a main board online, got it today, placed it in the casing and plugged it all back in..

turns on, then right back off.. 5 blinks...

any suggestions as to what i'm overlooking here?

I am really big on getting good enough to replace components rather than buying a replacement board like I did for this one but there isn't much documentation here or online in general for this particular 5 blinks issue on the Sony KSL32s3000. if this was 6 blinks.. i'd be watching tv right now i think here are some images I took of the main and power boards yesterday... maybe i'm not looking in the right place for the eeprom?

Hi Dave.

I'm not as experienced or knowledgeable as most others here but thought I would try to help since no-one else has answered yet and I have a notion.

5 blinks on this model indicates a communication problem between your T-con panel and the MT5388 chip on the main board. I assume that's the eeprom you replaced. So may in fact be on either end of that transfer.

Conclusion: You may want to look at your T-con board instead of your main board. These are cheap enough to replace if you can't be bothered trying to repair.

Hi! thanks for the reply, and thanks for the additional information where to look. I have the service manual and it indicates ic7200 for the nand memory but, looking at the board, in comparison to the schematic... the layout's don't seem to jibe with the literature.

I had taken a look at the t-con and noticed along the row of capacitors right past the connection, one seemed to be missing. I placed a temp jumper there but the tv then would not start at all.

my cell phone camera up and got fungi-ed up (upgrade available but don't wanna loose verizon unlimited data), my tablet is dead and my dslr is awol for the moment, but when one of those rectifies itself, i'll post a couple t-con images... and maybe a more detailed description of the disparity against the manual's diagram and the actual board's I have.

I'm all about the repairing end rather than replace.. I'm trying to gain skill with what's necessary to keep the electronics in play and not replaced evertime some little hic-up occurs. Complacency and apathy are what will become the norm in consumer electronics filling the coffers of these companies that will no longer try to build quality products if we continue to just replace things when they break.

hello again...
tried to move forward today but was not a fruitful endeavor. Found the best price to upgrade my phone (and it's camera) ... I got to walmart too late too meet a cell service person. My tablet.. could not get a focused image to save my life today... my DSLR? I guess I'm just now coming to realize.. I've gotten lazy or spoiled because the thought of the process to unpack the camera, set it up, take the pics, remove the cf, plug it in to my computer, grab the pics, resize them from RAW and then post them here is seemingly insumountable when I can just simply take a pic with the cell or tablet in one place, then walk to my computer and it's there for me to attach.

Logic dictates that the t-con board is my culprit, based upon the power seeming to function correctly, the backlights turning on and off at the appropriate times, and that both main boards do not alter the error state.

Visually, the area that stood out to me are the row of ceramic caps near the connector. one of them is not there and it had looked like one had been there previously. I tried to affix a temporary one to see if maybe that was the case but when I did, the tv would not turn on at all. You can see the results of that in the image. Other than that, nothing to me appeared visually out of sorts. I'm going to look at the schematics in the morning to see if anything comes apparent by reviewing. If something is jumping out at you in my thought process or in the image please let me know.

oh well.. i came to the realization that the service manual was not the one I should have been looking at...
the chasis number is the difference, not the model number...
I have the correct one now and the 5 blinks now means something completely different.

DC_ALERT3.. BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN???

HMMM hopefully i can deduce that today.

from what it sounds like on this manual... it's a voltage discrepancy on the powerboard.. which.. totally makes sense, there are a couple of suspect caps on the board... but i never inspected the thing since the other manual was steering me a whole nother direction...

I finally got a new phone to take some pics with...
From the information i'd found in the service manual, i focused on the power board, didn't see anything obviously blown or broken on it however.

i'm going to test the voltages today hopefully...

I attached some images of the boards in case somebody my spot what could be causing this standby problem visually.

Thank you for anytime you can spare to help me track down this seemingly "easy, but not so much with no documentation of what the error message is for" issue.
