Sharp LC52D85U with vertical line in the middle of the screen

Well, I'm going to continue working on the 47" Toshiba I picked up last week but in the mean time I saw this on Craigslist just now. May be able to pick it up for under $100. The listing says the picture can be seen through the line. It would appear that way in the photo although they took it with only static on the screen. Anyone seen a Sharp with this symtom? Its an Aquos 120Hz LCD.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

After reading some other posts I'm thinking maybe tab bond on the panel, but if the actual panel is bad I'm certainly going to pass.

They've taken me up on a $75 offer and I could go get it right now but I'll wait on a couple opinions.

    Thanks everyone!

$75 is too much for that IMO with bad panel being a possibility.

Thanks Tom. I'll steer clear then. Was hoping it might be something simple since the picture was still visible.

        Just trying to learn.

Any time you see a regional defect (one bar/line/etc in middle of panel) it is almost always a panel fault, because the other parts work on the panel as a whole, half or quarter and defects are usually consistent in those areas.

I've repaired a few of these now but they were all power supply or main board issues. Certainly makes sense that if most of the screen is working than the fault lies in the screen itself. I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Thanks again for the advice. I can see how hanging out here can become addictive. I find myself wanting to pick up TVs now even though I don't really need them for anything.

Sharp LC19SB24U; red vertical line comes and goes
              by valvashon
Yes, this is a very old Sharp 19" but I would like to fix it if possible. As you can see from the attached picture there is a single red vertical line.
Yesterday when I turned the set on, it was there for about 30 minutes then disappeared and did not show up again (set was on for another 3 hours or so).
Today it was not there when I powered the set on, then appeared after about 15 minutes. Set has been on for about an hour and it's still there.
From what I have read I'm guessing that this might be the t-con board and not the display itself as it does come and go.

              Kogan - KALED65XU9220STB - Blue Vertical Line
              by TrueSword88
              Hi all.

I have a Kogan 65' LCD Panel with a thin blue vertical line (top to bottom) on left hand side of panel.
The line just happens to coincide with the end of COF and start of the next COF (attached).

The line is permanent no matter what I've tried. I've tried pressure testing the panel (top to bottom) and all over, I didn't notice any difference with the line, either temporary or semi-permanent.

Also tried unplugging all flex cables, cleaned with isopropyl then re-inserting to no avail - line remains.

              Hoping to fix...

To fix laptop screen vertical line by working on its EDP cable
              by almarhum
Has one here really gone through fixing laptop screen vertical line(s) by repairing/replacing its Embedded DisplayPort (EDP) cable, so would recount and share the complete steps of the process here now?

As most, if not all, believe the laptop screen vertical line(s) caused by defective Embedded DisplayPort (EDP) cable which slipped and passed through either laptop screen hinge but post here is asking help to elaborate definitively the useful, real knowledge of repairing in the most complete, correct way, esp. can decide/determine whether the cable can still be fixed or must be re...

Samsung UE58TU7100K - no picture, vertical line
              by mrsith
              Hi.

Got UE58TU7100K with no picture - backlight comes on though. Figured out that's a perfect candidate for cut tape method.

This model has just one LVDS tape coming off main board - and two panel boards underneath the LCD screen are connected to each other via small tape. Like curved screens. I've tried to disconnect half of the screen (5he side without LVDS connector on it, obviously), no joy.

Disconnected the tape (main board side). Applied a small piece of tape, covering first ~4-5 pins. Powered the TV on - got picture. In negative, but that's...
