Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Or a configuration problem with FB3. The reason I don't think it is the panel is due to how T-con boards work. They send individual data to each tab driver. The panel would need to remember data from the other tabs to create this effect. This is assuming it's not doing anything fancy (like maybe the panel has memory?) -- maybe it's a different design to what I've usually seen. Please do not PM me with questions! Interesting freeze spray test on a SONY with a bad panel and double image. FWIW

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
OK. I removed the LVDS cable and ohmed it out, all 51 microscopic connections.
All connectors within the connector shells are properly seated, symmetrically spaced, not deformed, and each conductor within the cable ohms out properly with less than .6 ohm resistance. I also applied a small and reasonable amount of tension to each and every conductor as it enters the shell with a tweezers and none were loose or threatening to come out.
I know how to get into the service menu, but I don't know what specific FB3 configuration you are referring to. I am also aware of the freeze spray test, but I am leery of doing that as I have concerns about damaging the liquid crystals or something to that perhaps overly cautious effect.
Isn't it possible the LVDS cable could still be bad?

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Hello,
I have not had a chance to work on this issue further, but I did recently discover that the FB3 board does have encryption key components on it if that relates to any of the prior stated issues. The manual says this:
"Any board in which the Servicer replaces an encryption key component must be placed back into the set it orignally came from and the replaced defective component MUST BE DESTROYED. Boards cannot be swapped."
So I wonder if this makes an FB3 board swap more complicated than it might otherwise be???
I also found a panel size setting in the "BEM" service menu (on page 21 & two sizes available. 40" & 46") that you are supposed to set correctly if you change out the FB3 board. I wonder if that might have been set incorrectly for some reason on the original FB3 board. It may also be set incorrectly on the replacement FB3 board.
Thank you everyone for the time you have put into helping me, especially tom66.
Best wishes...Comment

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
I went into the BEM service menu and found the "panel_size" set to 1. According to the service manual, 1 is the correct setting for a 46" Bravia, but not for my 40". I then set "panel_size" to 0 (correct for the 40") and saved the setting to memory, but no improvement to the problem was seen.
I also tried freeze spray to the edges of the screen at the affected area both top and bottom. No difference to the problem.
If you look closely at the display anomaly, you will see that if the right half of the display could be uniformly moved to the left by the distance of the light blue vertical bar, the text would line up very well and the double image (or overwrite?) would be gone. So it seems that something is causing the same pixel data to be written twice and displaced to the right (correct me if I'm wrong please).
It sure seems that something is amiss in the service menu setup. I hope someone with Sony Bavia service menu knowledge would add something to this thread.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Bizzt couple of questions. I noted in your first post that you tried signals through normal av and composite. Have you tried signals through hdmi and if so is the issue still present? The reason I ask it appears to me that all of your video issues are routing through the AU board at this point where as the hdmi doesn't go through the AU board but instead is direct fed into the FB3 board which you have replaced. Also have you ran the emma test patterns and if so is the issue still present? If you don't have anything to test hdmi the emma pattern should do the trick as it is processed post AU board and right before TCON. Even better yet run the EPP graphics and see if the issue is still present.
While in service mode jump through the various groups until you see "BEM" at the top left corner. Use the "2" key to scroll to group number 6. Use the "1" key to scroll to item 15 "EPP_PAT_ENB". This will enable the pattern generator and should default to a white field. Scrolling back to item number 3 brings you to "EPP_TP_MODE". Changing the data to 1 will generate a cross pattern which should work best with the issue you are having.
At the Digital Service Page select category 2 with the "2" key. Change test pattern data to "1". If the asterisk is not set to video, move it there by pressing the "1" key. Press "Enter" not "0". Select "Color Bar Gfx" by pressing the "4" key if the asterisk is not set there. Press "Enter" again. You will be prompted to press "Enter" once again and the graphics should appear. Once activated this test pattern will lock you out from any further remote commands and the set must be powered down in order to ext.
Good luck!Comment

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Thanks halobender.
I have cycled through all of the inputs both analog and digital, and they all exhibit this vertical bar problem in the exact same part of the screen. This is the reason I did not pursue feeding signal into every input, because the bar was present anyway. If I did, I assume I would see the same double image.
I'll try the service menu options you state here.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Hello halobender,
I finally got around to working on this beast some more. I made progress with the instructions in your last post, but got hung up at your second paragraph:
"At the Digital Service Page select category 2 with the "2" key. Once activated this test pattern will lock you out from any further remote commands and the set must be powered down in order to ext."
May I bother you to rewrite this second part so that I can follow these instructions while working in the service menu?
The test pattern did have an extra vertical line in it adjacent to a vertical line that was supposed to be there. Other than that, it looked fine.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Here is a picture of the display pattern that I should have included in my last post. You can clearly see the extra vertical line right of center. You can also see that all cubes are the same size and are clear & clean. Gosh, I hate to throw this thing in the trash...

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
OK. I was finally able to access the Color Bar Gfx test pattern. I hope this helps. If it means anything, the vertical bar was not visible when I had the set in white field mode.
I also removed the display metal bezel and freeze sprayed the driver ICs located in the center of each TAB, I freeze sprayed the junction of the TAB and the panel, and I gently pushed on each TAB. No improvement on any of these tests.
The driver ICs do run quite warm without the metal bezel.

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD TV vertical bar problem
Do not run more than 2~3 minutes without the frame, those ICs can get up to 155F. If it is not tab bonding, then there is not much you can do to fix the drive IC.Attached FilesLast edited by budm; 09-26-2013, 09:39 PM.Never stop learning

by PopsCapsI have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 that will not power on. The indicator flashes red 3 times.
I do not hear any sound and I cannot see any backlight.
I have tried disconnecting every cable on each board one at a time to see if anything changes.
The only change is when I disconnect AC-DET cable on the Power Supply board or on the other end if I unplug the CN7009 connection on the B-Board and try to power on the TV the indicator will stay on solid green until I power off.
My friend ordered another used power supply board but it is also doing the red indicator flash 3 times... -

by motoraheadHi everyone, I've been troubleshooting my 20" Sony Trinitron (KV-20FV12) CRT after it failed to show a picture. The standby LED is blinking 4 times, which according to the service manual is a failed vertical deflection via the self-diagnostic check during power up.
After getting the TV checked out by a technician and doing research on my own. The most obvious first step was to replace the IC502. I've done so with an exact NOS replacement with no luck. I've read a few suggestions to make sure the 12V supply to pin 2, but that voltage check would seem misleading? It seems if the... - Loading...
