Re: Sony Trinitron (KV-20FV12) Vertical Deflection Stopped

Makes sense about the possiblity of a misleading error code.

I powered on the TV while checking the 200v pin 6 on CN706. 182.5v was measured until the TV shuts off. Unplugged the connection and the TV still shut off. Voltage at CN502 (source connection for CN706) was the same. However, with CN502/CN706 disconnected. Pin 6 voltage at CN502 is measuring 194.2v. Hope that makes sense.

It's almost a 10v drop when the CN706 is connected. Is that normal?

    I also checked pin1 +12v across CN502/CN706. 13.9v connected / 14.04v disconnected.

Lastly for this evening, it's a little awkward powering on the TV while holding the multimeter lead to the board... I screwed up and accidentally shorted pin1 (+12v) with pin2 (-15v) on CN706. There was a pop and a tiny bit of smoke from that area. The TV is behaving the same (at least it's not doing something different?). I don't smell anything and visual inspection of the CB board looks ok.

R_J, I'm wondering if the 182v reading at startup might indicate a bad capacitor somewhere?

Hi all, just following up on this. Hoping to get the TV off the bench sooner than later.

I may resort to replacing the capacitors on the vertical circuit as well as the IC702.

That 182v reading (200v spec) seems low but not sure what the threshold is for something like this. And if it is unacceptably low, why. Is it the flyback transformer supplying that voltage?

Hi all, I finally got the TV off the workbench!

I was able to find the service "training manual" (https://www.manualslib.com/manual/92...page=26#manual) on the unit and came across the troubleshooting matrix mentioning the following symptoms which was exactly what my set was doing:

          Timer LED: 4 flashes
Relay Clicks: 4 clicks - Power ON, Degauss ON and OFF and Shutdown

It mentioned the IC604 5volt regulator being suspect on the A board. I immediately checked it and observed proper supply voltage, but no 5v on the output. So I ordered a replacement from Digikey (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/...M7805FA/805763) and swapped it out.

          That did the trick!

Thanks for all of the help. I intend on keep this TV long term so if something else goes wrong, I'll at least know my way around it.

I have a G810 monitor i've had for years but it has developed a problem with vertical collapse. Is there anybody here who has worked on these and can help me find where the circuit even is for the vertical deflection?

            Sony KDL-40V3000 - Vertical lines
            by gpo23
            Hello,

            i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

            Thank you for your help

            by visionbluedemon
First. it has no picture at all. i solved it by covering the ckv lines using tape to to block the connections

Second. now has picture but with vertical lines that follow the image. tcon board ic overheating

tried blocking LC lines too, but same results

is it lcd panel issue or tcon board issue?...

            Sony Trinitron KV32FV27 Suddenly Dimmed
            by cmonkey
A couple of days ago I finally got my hands on a locally sourced Trinitron and after lugging all 175 LBS home I gave it a good cleaning inside and out. The guy said it had been in a shed for 2 years, but the outside wasn't too bad. The inside was another story and while there was no evidence of mouse, it had certainly been kept in a VERY dirty home.

I cleaned it to an acceptable level of grime, at least clean enough to where nothing would heat up from the dust insulation. I then tried it out and it worked!

I'd say I had it on for about 15 minutes or so and then lugged...

Sony XBR-85X950G Gray horizontal lines and vertical picture shift diagnosis?
            by noisykid
5.5 year old 85 inch Sony Bravia X950G started showing gray horizontal lines across the bottom of the screen and the picture shifts slightly vertically when it happens. The lines sometimes get bigger/smaller vertically and bounce back. See the video for the problem. It seems to be happening after it warms up after an hour or so. Happens regardless of source. Right now there's nothing but power cable connected and it's happening. We did hook up a new Nintendo Switch to our HDMI switching receiver today, and played for a while with no issues, but this problem didn't occur til a few hours later while...
