    Phillips 42PFL3704D/F7 No Picture

New here and I have been searching the forum for solutions to my problem. I found some very good information, but I'm no ready to play around with these high voltages.

The TVs power comes on when I plug in and then when I push to power button I here the normal click and the power light comes on bright. But I get no picture, startup screen, menu, not even a glow. I opened up the back and didn't see anything out of the normal and I tested the fuse and it was good.

I think I just want to take a guess and replace the Inverter board. What do you all think? Is this a good guess or should I try something else?

I also found that shopj has a kit for $114...better option?

    Thanks for the help.

    Jim

You can safely check for 24v dc voltages to the inverter, if no voltage present at start up its not the inverter.

It is not possible to skip basic troubleshooting unless you like to throw money at the problem. I'm well informed $114 will buy you a kit from ShopJimmy.

Problem I have with troubleshooting these things is I have no experience doing such and don't want to just start probing around with my mm. If I could find some in depth info (pictures would really help) I would give it a shot. TV was free so it would be nice to fix with minimal cost.

          Thanks for the input.

I doubt you'd find pictures/guides for this particular model though. It's not common enough... perhaps there's a YouTube video for this model, but I would doubt it.

              Re: Phillips 42PFL3704D/F7 No Picture

If its just the inverter not working then you should get a picture on the screen providing there is an input signal, pc or cable box etc.. connected, it just means you cannot see the picture because the backlight is not illuminated which makes the image clearly visible. Get close up to the screen and power it on, with a torch, preferably with a bright powerful output, shine it at the screen, you should see an image. Shine the light across the screen at different angles.
The lcd panel is a sealed unit so you won't be able to shine the light from behind the unit, not even with the rear panel off.
Providing the tv stays on long enough and the input source is selected there will be an image, if there is no image visible your fault is not the inverter.

I checked for a picture tonight in a completely dark room with a flash light and there was no signs of any pictures.

I guess this tv is ready for the trash

Please don't throw it away. Sell it to someone on Craigslist for $30.

Better still just give it away rather than just trashing it, someone can make use of the parts, it won't be me but someone will appreciate it! How about posting boards at just the cost of postage?

Can you obtain an inverter from someone who will accept returns if its not the board at fault? So the cost of shipping to you and returned back to them is all you would be out of pocket by, a cheaper solution than buying a replacement board that doesn't fix the fault and at a high price. How far would $114 go towards a replacement TV there?

Are you able to remove the inverter, take good quality close up pictures of it on both sides and put them on here for us to see if anything obvious is wrong with them?
Of course the inverter could be faulty without any obvious visible signs but we could advise based on the photographic evidence.
