    Goodmans LD266HD backlight issue

Need some help with this, fault is tv powers on then 2 seconds to standby image is displayed for 2 seconds then led goes to red.

good 24v to inverter, if I unplug supply to inverter set stays on, also tried plugging each of the tubes in one at a time each one flashes up ok for the 2 seconds but with only one tube connected it does not put the set into standby!

The psu is vestel 17PW15-9 I know there are many kits for these boards but I'm not sure if the fault lies with the psu or inverter

    thanks Ronnie

    Re: Goodmans LD266HD backlight issue

you need to plug in a separate ccfl tube one at a time to rule out the back lights, the psu will go into protection otherwise and shut down the 24v supply to the inverter,in other words, pull one out replace with test ccfl then replace original ,and so on.
fixed so far...376 lg lcd tv's,24 onn tv;s,24 panasonic lcd,16 jvc lcd,12 marshall jcm800 amps, refurb of various disco equipment lighting, old style disco decks ,and a flymo!

Thanks for your advice, in my experience any problems from the inverter or ccfl's it shuts off and the tv will still run, in this case the whole tv goes to standby?

The two 15n/630V caps at top of PSU are bad.

Hi Tom, that's what I was thinking but not sure the symptoms fitted, in the past with these psu's and those caps the sets were stuck in standby?

          cheers Ronnie

If rails collapse they are usually the issue. Check the main board STBY signal for activity as well though.

It will always come out of standy everytime and will stay on if no load on the 24v?

That sounds a lot like bad 15n's to me.

                    Re: Goodmans LD266HD backlight issue

Had same problem as you have on your tv. Must have been over two years ago. It did turn out to be those 15n caps. Had replaced many 15n caps on that psu,but didn't suspect them at all in this case. Wasted a lot of time, I remember that all right.I think it was from previous experience, that I thought 24v rail was ok.However when I finally checked those 15n caps, one was ok, the other slightly low. Much better condition than other caps I had replaced. I do know that the inverter shut down, but can't remember if power on voltage changed from .6v to 1.7v to put the set into standby.Have feeling 24v remained, why I thought psu was ok.

If your set same fault as mine, Tom has got it right again. Don't know how he does it. Had this set in front of me and took quite a while to find the problem.

I think my set was 32 inch. Ron.
