Panasonic TC-P50G10, 7 & 6 blinks

I have been looking around on this site trying to find help fixing my G10 series plasma TV but figured a new post might be best. I have found lots of useful information but I am stuck between the 7 and 6 blink codes!

One day my TV just quit on me and started giving me the 7 blink code. I found some instructions online on how to trouble shoot the boards. I took the back off of the TV and unplugged the SU board and still had 7 blinks. I disconnected the SD board and still got 7 blinks. I disconnected the SC board and got 6 blinks. I'm confused and don't know what this means. Why the change in codes? Does this mean that the SC board needs to be replaced? Is something else bad in addition to the SC board? I don't know what the next step is. Can someone help me please?

Usually it is the SC board on this chassis.

Thank you tom66!!! So why the change in blinks? Where is the best place to purchase a SC board?

Probably the TV defaults to 6 blinks if it detects both 6 & 7 blinks, which will occur when SC has no power. As for purchase, not sure myself. The boards are in quite short supply.

That makes sense. It's almost too good to be true that this could be fixed with just the swap out of a board. I was pretty proud of myself until I got the change in blinks and I got super frustrated! Can someone suggest to me what the place is to purchase a new SC board?

The best bet is often picking up a victim of a stray wii controller. A surprising number of TVs are damaged in such a way and they go for very little.

Ha Ha!!! Never thought of that. Will the SC board work in all G10 series models or do you know if its specific?

"U" or "E" etc on the end of the model # isn't important, as that's just the region code (USA, europe etc.)

Screen size is where I'm not sure. I'm reasonably sure a 58" board would work in a 50" TV, for example, but I'm not certain, because the plasma panels are slightly different between models, and this affects the energy recovery (efficiency improvement.)

Ok, I will look some more!!! I have found it a lot cheaper but they are all "out of stock". That at least lets me know im on the right track. Thank you!

Just another idea.

If you want to be 100% certain it's the SC board, i believe that this model has the factory test option at SC50 onthe SC board. It's a small 2pin socket which you short and power on the set with the SC connected, buffers disconnected. If the board is good then it should power on with no SOS at the front. If it still blinks, most likeley SOS6 then that confirms it as a bad SC. If no then the SC passed and the true fault is the SOS7 and bad buffer board/s.

It also mentions not to power on for more than 30secs.

It does mention SOS6 could also be SS but I'm thinking since you started SOS7 if it then went SOS6 with buffer disconnection and SC50 jumpered it would be SC.

As far as I know any buffer board disconnected be it one or two will cause SOS7 with out that jumper.

Im not sure I know how to short the 2 pin socket but I know it has one. Can you explain it better to someone who knows nothing about TV's! I'm honestly learning as I go so forgive me if I dont understand. I would like to test it though! I did however find an SC board for $69!!

The 2 pins need to be shorted together or electrically connected to complete the circuit and create the bypass. Alligator cip, hard drive jumper connector may work. I have used both.

Sorry to jump in so late, but when the FET went out on the SC in my 42" Panny, I got the same 6 blinks/7 blinks code that you saw when my SC was disconnected.

John, did you get 7 blinks? Or 6?
I think it was 7 because that is a common issue. 6 blinks is SC, SU, SD or panel.

I have to look at my notes. I remember that originally it was 7 blinks. With the sd or su disconnected I think it flashed 6 blinks once then 7 blinks. If I remember correctly, with the sc unplugged, it turned on.
