Try complaining that the T-con board it's not good, they may send you another one.

I'm pretty sure the tcon board is good. I'm getting identical results with both and the odds that both are bad are pretty slim. Plus i only paid $13 for the board. After i mail it back i'm only going to see maybe $8. If the board was $50 then that would be a whole different story.

        Re: 42LG30 Vetical bars

I had a 42LG70 not to long ago with different issue, keep blowing fuses and I got tired of wasting time with it and I have just ordered another PS board and installed it and sold it.
Normally I should have compare them and find the bad component and try to salvage that bad board, but I was sick if it and I didn't care anymore.
I'm almost in the same situation with an LED Sharp 40LE810. Nobody can help me with it, the mainboard is at least $156. PS I have ordered and replaced with same results. They took back the board and I have got my money back, except the shipping fee.
        How much is the mainboard?

I should point out that fading lines are almost always not due to the main board. This is because the main board processes video (typically top left to bottom right) with digital information only. Ones and zeros. In 8, 10 or 12 bit chunks. Such slow, and clearly imperfect fading, can only occur on the panel side, or if the T-con sends bad data to the panel. Maybe if I get the free time I will write a guide on diagnosing Panel vs. Main but there's only a few things to look for.

            Re: 42LG30 Vetical bars

            Here is an update.
I still can't change sources to see if audio is present whether with the RS232 cable or the OEM remote. I was looking at the main board wanting to throw it when i noticed something. There were a few markings made in ink over on the right side of the board. I've seen this type of writing on boards that mainly come from ebay or any tv chop shop. It made me wonder.........

The main board that is in this tv right now is for a 42LG30.AUSTLJM.
The Tv itself is a 42LG30.BUSTLJM.

So it would appear the main board has been swapped for whatever reason and done with the wrong board. Now i've seen incompatible main boards do a negative image. Could it be a plausible explination for the washed out bars and no control over the keyboard except for the on/off which btw takes longer than one would expect to power on?

I recently came across a 32" Samsung with vertical multicoloured bars and one of the tab drivers had burnt itself completely out -- so panel was bad.

                  Re: 42LG30 Vetical bars

Well i manned up and bought the correct main board. I am happy to announce the tv is working correctly. The standby led only blinks 1-2 times then the backlights come on. My friend scrapped this project a couple weeks ago since he didn't want to gamble the $90 for the main board. This will be wall mounted in my dining room since it has no base.

Thanks to all for your opinions.
I got very lucky on this one.

                      by Hakuu
                      Hi There,

This TV was auto switching off after few seconds with some vertical lines on the screen, so got a new TCON board and replaced it.

After replacing the TCON board it was working fine and i set it up with everything, used for few hours, then had the bright idea to update the software on it. During the update process, TV switched off and now no audio or video. No relay switch sound.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                      by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

Driving a Sharp TCON/panel with a universal main board
                      by advant
This thread is about trying to get an Universal Main Board to work with a Sharp TCON and panel.

I have a Sharp LC-46D85UN TV that has had a main board issue. Since this model is from 2009, I am not able to find an exact replacement of the main board. Instead, I decided to see if I can future proof this tv by getting a Universal Main Board (T53U21.2) from China to work with the Sharp TCON (CPWBX4291TPZA) and panel. The universal main board supports a 8 bit dual channel LVDS interface whereas the TCON requires a 10 bit dual channel LVDS input. I have modded the LVDS connector to match...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

                      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
