I have a 50" Samsung Plasma TV, Model HP-T5054X/XAA that won't power up. When I plug in the power cable there is a clicking noise that goes for a couple of seconds, then stops, and then starts clicking again.
I first looked online and saw something about a bad power board, so I bought a tested one online and put it in...no change.
We then had a Samsung Repair Tech over to look at an LCD we were having problems with and he was nice enough to look at this Plasma and quickly pointed to a bad chip on the upper Y-Buffer Board. So I got refurbished Y-Buffer Boards (upper and lower) and replace the old ones...no change
I was going to sell this this for parts even though I really want it working. When I listed it, at least one person said after reading what I had already done that 90% of the 5054s with problems had the same issue but he wouldn't tell me what it was since he wanted to buy the TV off me for much less than I listed it and then fix it himself.
So I am back to my research on what could be the issue. Here is what I've read as possible issues:
1) The Y Board that the Y Buffer Boards attached two might need to be replaced since there was a bad upper Y buffer. I took the Y board off and saw no burns or bad caps.
2) Someone suggested I replace the main board as they had a different model and that how they fixed it. I took the main board off and saw no burns or bad caps.
3) I read one post that said the button board on this model was often tightened too much in the factory and could be cracked, causing problems.
I feel like this thing is turning into a money pit but I'd still really like to fix it without spending almost the same as a new TV. Any help based on seeing this on the same model multiple times would be appreciated. Thanks.
