50" Samsung Plasma HP-T5054X/XAA won't power up and clicks

I have a 50" Samsung Plasma TV, Model HP-T5054X/XAA that won't power up. When I plug in the power cable there is a clicking noise that goes for a couple of seconds, then stops, and then starts clicking again.

I first looked online and saw something about a bad power board, so I bought a tested one online and put it in...no change.

We then had a Samsung Repair Tech over to look at an LCD we were having problems with and he was nice enough to look at this Plasma and quickly pointed to a bad chip on the upper Y-Buffer Board. So I got refurbished Y-Buffer Boards (upper and lower) and replace the old ones...no change

I was going to sell this this for parts even though I really want it working. When I listed it, at least one person said after reading what I had already done that 90% of the 5054s with problems had the same issue but he wouldn't tell me what it was since he wanted to buy the TV off me for much less than I listed it and then fix it himself.

So I am back to my research on what could be the issue. Here is what I've read as possible issues:
    1) The Y Board that the Y Buffer Boards attached two might need to be replaced since there was a bad upper Y buffer. I took the Y board off and saw no burns or bad caps.
    2) Someone suggested I replace the main board as they had a different model and that how they fixed it. I took the main board off and saw no burns or bad caps.
    3) I read one post that said the button board on this model was often tightened too much in the factory and could be cracked, causing problems.

I feel like this thing is turning into a money pit but I'd still really like to fix it without spending almost the same as a new TV. Any help based on seeing this on the same model multiple times would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have repaired a similar chassis, 42" version though; it had that same bad cap, but the main issue was a failed X-main board. This is NOT the same as the main board; it's the board opposite the Y-buffer/Y-main. Mine would click, blink the LED, click, blink and repeat, every few seconds.

@tom66 - No bad caps found to date. I just took off the x-main board and it looks fine too! So frustrating when all of the boards look good but changing them all would be for the price of a new LED LCD!!!

Since you had a blown IC on the buffers I would be suspicious of the Y-Main. If you unplug the Y-Main, does the TV come on?
(You can disconnect (powered off) the X-Main too if it still clicks)

Yeah I know how you feel :p. I'm working on almost the same plasma TV, HP-T5044X/XAA (guessing an older version)

Just waiting for my buffer boards to get delivered.

If you found a burnt chip on your buffer boards, try checking the FETs on the Y-main.
I had some good buffer boards but the Y-main prevented it from turning on. (The FETs didn't have to look burnt to be shorted)

Just tried the suggestion from drpj23 to disconnect the y-main board and I believe that did it!!! Instead of the clicking it made a little do-do-do-do chime that sounded a lot like it was happy (or trying to turn on). Next step, new Y-main board...hoping I didn't mess up the refurbished Y-buffers since I had attached them to the Y-main that was bad. I think I saw an offer to fix all three for $79 on eBay I may try...

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I'll update status once I get a new or refurbished Y-main board...unless you have suggestions on where to get for a good price.

            Thanks again.

I ran across this model yesterday. One of the transformers on the upper-y board looks burnt. Not surprising since it was mounted on the wall of a gambling establishment/bar for years (smoking allowed).

Here's a crappy pic if anyone is interested.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                      Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Upgrading a Samsung ue55nu7096u with logic board from an ue55ru7105k -- good idea?
                      by ohren
I hope this is the right forum to post in despite not technically being a repair, but still a question of swapping boards.

I thought I'd explore the possibility to upgrade an existing working Samsung ue55nu7096u with the logic board (and power board if needed) of a newer model (ue55ru7105k) of the same size and appearance (and resolution). The reason being I'd like the extra inputs of that board including component in, an extra HDMI port and bluetooth. Its panel is broken so I have no use for the board otherwise.

The models launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively....
