Vizio M221NV sound through headphone jack but not speakers

I've gone through the menu and made sure the internal speakers are on. I've reset the factory audio specs. Still no dice. I see no bulging caps. The headphone jack works. I'm thinking the audio amp is shot. Any ideas?

It is also possible there is a shorted speaker or cable which is putting the amplifier in protection mode; have you tried running it with one or the other speaker?

Can I get the picture of the headphone jack and the board it is mounted on, it may have switches that switches off the speakers when you insert the headphone plug into the jack but did not switch back to the speaker mode when phone plug is removed.

That is an excellent point. My sister's laptop encountered a similar issue. I forgot entirely about that...

                  Jack

Speaker connection. I can't unplug one speaker without unplugging both speakers

What I would think is the audio amp section of the board.

                  The whole board

Is there a mechanical connection in the jack that is opened when the plug is inserted?

Yes there is an internal switching mechanism in , specifically designed to kill the speakers when headphones are inserted. FYI a headphone jack problem is the only thing that I have seen cause the symptom as you describe it.

put the headphones back in and try whipping it out really fast, it may just be jammed open.

If you check the socket and note all the connections to it and try and work out using ohms what is conected when the plug is in, when the plug is out
and the one that doesnt change (that is probably the switch)

I had a similar issue in the past with a 37" Toshiba and we couldn't figure it out, amp IC it was way to complicated to replace, so I have just purchased a 2.1 Logitech speaker system for $28, and this way I have actually upgraded the sound of the TV.

Well, I'm having no luck getting a clear pic. I was able to carefully pull the plastic housing from the headphone jack. I can see that the mechanical connection is closed. I verified with my meter. I think the amp is shot. I wish I could find a schematic for this thing. For now, I'll use a pair of computer speakers.

Any one know where I can get a panel mount, 3.5mm, stereo headphone jack like that? I've found them with a 90 degree bend in it, where the jack would point down if it was installed. I need one just like in the picture.

I bought a battery powered amplified pair of speakers today. They run off 4.5v. I scavenged the amp out and successfully transplanted it into the set. Found a pin on the main board with 4.9v and got it powered. Soldered the output to the appropriate pins for the speakers and got it all working. I managed to damage the headphone jack so I used a radio shack 274-0246 jack. Common to pin 1, left channel on the main board to pin 5, right to pin 2. Pin 4 goes to the left channel on the amp, pin 3 to the right. It looks different than the original but sounds great. The speakers even shut off when the headphones are plugged in. Best part is if I want to replace the main board nothing has been cut. This board with the new amp comes out together and the original plugs can be used on the new board. I'll get pictures in the morning.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

The normal laptop speakers work fine. Anyone has an idea what it might be? Did a full reinstall of windows, still nothing.

I bought used Logitech Z-10 computer speakers. They can act as a USB audio device or accept line input, and they have a headphone output jack. Some music didn't sound right, so I played a frequency sweep and heard other frequencies and beat frequencies between them and the sweep. I uploaded a spectrogram of a frequency sweep. From the very start, some but not all odd harmonics are visible, indicating symmetric distortion. Then at higher frequencies there are descending images of those harmonics, indicating non-linearity and constant higher frequency noise mixing with the harmonics. The image of...
